Dollieh temptations and plans

You're probably going to use the computer every day for many more tasks than a doll. This is coming from someone who bought a new computer for the first time in nine years that they had to special order to get what they wanted and has no regrets.

I also don't know how many dolls I have so I know the desire but I'm also still not completely used to how fast this one boots up in the mornings compared to the previous one.

My current PC is a Frankenstein's monster built out of second hand parts from my brother and one of my friends. The initial build is 11 years old but the parts are slightly newer. I have to unplug it to turn it off , the disc drive no longer works and it stutters with games that came out a couple of years ago. So I was like...it's probably time to build a new one.

It's an enormous upfront cost but a new PC would likely last another 11 years with the bonus of keeping me occupied with games. I think the cost is what is making me think I'd probably have more fun with a hobby that costs less. lol!

I'm a member of the No Buy Doll Club on DOA and it's not so much about not buying any dolls as it is helping each other budget and make wise decisions. We also help each other with temptations to mindlessly spend so when the right doll comes along you will be ready for it.

First off if it's a daily use appliance quality of life thing it should come first. And with all the tariff nonsense it's not going to get cheaper. In this day and age you really do need a reliable way to be on the internet and do digital tasks. Being that you can build it means you can get exactly what you want and you have an extra special skill a lot of other people don't have and you should keep practicing and updating it.

Dolls are not a "cheaper hobby" unless you're buying play line ones from the junk store and fixing them up or you're only getting those blind box ones. My little vinyl 1/6 ones were $$ each, all the resins $$$. I don't know what they'd be with inflation but I'm thinking the twins would easily be $$$$ each now. Take the time to learn about the hobby, figure out exactly what you want in your doll(s), and then you'll feel much better about your first purchase(s).

Some 1/6 dolls can also be $$$, depending on the doll (I'm looking at you, Integrity). Dolls definitely aren't a cheap hobby, that's for sure.

The doll hobby was being compared to the $2000 computer I would like to build. XD In that sense dolls are much cheaper to me in comparison to that because I only buy second hand/less popular sculpts.

Also I was looking to spend under $200 - for second hand/less popular company resin parts! X3c Yes it is possible! I love modding the crap out of dolls. I don't share what I do though and truthfully haven't touched my own collection for 10 years. I do also very much like the little blind box bjd though. I did scratch the itch and go ahead and buy another one recently. (pre-opened, so I know which one I am getting!)

I've been in it since Den of Angels was a Ya-hoo! group but I fall in to the lurker category.
I used to be more active but truthfully there are aspects of the bjd community that kind of made me run away. (like, weird popularity contests. And it's been that way from the start. Used to be 'only boy dolls are interesting' 'only Volks are interesting' 'only popular doll brands are interesting' 'only professionally made doll clothes are interesting' Like. I did not get in to the hobby for that lol! I'm an artist, I just thought it was neat you could customize the dolls, change them entirely, tell stories with them. I don't want to be better than anyone lol! But it's also sad to see some really cool things people have done with dolls being ignored.)

I am not located in the US so I am not certain how much of an issue tariffs would be for me but then again I haven't tried to buy anything from outside of the country in a hot minute.

But you are 100% correct in that saving up for this computer is much more important. I just hate spending that much all at once haha!

So The Loyal Subjects is doing a Jem and the Holograms Jerrica and Synergy set, and I REALLY want it . . . I hope they're still available when my next check comes in.

Yeah, that $120 price tag hurts . . . But I think I'm still going to do it, if the preorder is still up by next Thursday. Life has not been going well lately (had to have one of my cats put down Monday before last, two different people I know have passed away this month, people have been injured and sick, it's just not been a good time). I need SOMETHING to brighten my day, and since I don't have any other doll plans for the foreseeable future, I can justify it. I haven't collected dolls for display purposes in almost a decade, and I DO have some shelf space, so . . .

I don't have any doll plans for the foreseeable future, aside from keeping an eye out for dolls that would be good for my two favorite OCs. But I've been trying to make dolls of them for 3 years now, so I just don't think it'll happen. I might sew plushies of them instead.

I'd say keep a lookout! I was SURE I'd never be able to make dolls of some of my characters, and then one day Integrity had two dolls on clearance. And so Shailoh and Sybela finally appeared.

And thank you. June was a rough month. I forgot that my manager's mother has been in the hospital for possible sepsis, my neighbor's dog died (likely because of the poisoned rats from the OTHER neighbor's place, which is what caused me to have to put my cat down, and the heat and start of tourist season has made EVERYONE in my area start acting like jerks. It's just not been a good time . . .
