I collected figures for years before I started collecting dolls, and during that time I picked up a few Figmas, a few Nendoroids and a bunch of Revoltechs. Almost all of them went back in their boxes after I played around with them a bit. They have varying degrees of poseability, and I originally envisioned myself doing dioramas and sets and photo shoots with them. I also ended up buying a bunch of duplicate Revoltechs at clearance prices, thinking I could mod them into other characters. None of that really happened. Especially with the Revoltechs, I found they fell apart too easily at the joints, especially the elbows.

I hadn't looked at them for a while, but now that I do, I see definitely similarities between the Figmas and, say, my Obitsu BJDs. The Figma joints are a bit simpler, but they do work reasonably well for posing. It's also nice to be able to swap between various faces.

I've wanted to pick up a revoltech or two at a yearly anime convention that goes on near my area but I wasn't sure how good they are. I've heard about the joint issue though. That's one thing about figures and dolls that use a peg system in the joints, they eventually get loose and start falling apart  I've had that problem with figmas too.... I swear some of them fall apart if I even look at them. Does anyone have any particular opinions on revoltech? Do you like them?

Weird - I've never had/heard of any issue with the figma joints getting loose (and I've got their earliest release figure, so if there were issues you'd think he'd have them) - the same can't be said for my Revoltech figures though; in some cases the joint holes themselves seemed warped!

The Figma joints do use friction so I suppose in theory they could loosen eventually, but I think the company chose the materials well and the joint tolerances are excellent so I've not really noticed any loosening myself (in fact a couple of the joints are a little too tight - I can't for the life of me swap out to the alternate arm on my Rin figure the standard one is attached so well!)

This is entirely personal opinion but I think the overall quality of Figma trumps Revoltech hands down - looks-wise and the joints themselves; the gear system that Revoltech makes such a big deal of actually hinders the poses you can get the figures into - But Figma just don't have the licensing for the characters I love

Just to clarify -- it's the Revoltech joints that I find to get loose and fall apart, not the Figma ones. Figma ones seem fine, though I haven't really worked with any single Figma enough to see how wear-and-tear might affect them. But the elbows on my Revoltechs (from their IdolM@ster character releases) are a peg in a hole. Here's one of the better ones, with a bit of bulbousness to hold it in the hole; some don't seem to have even that bulb.

Oh sorry! Completely misunderstood your post there - with those joints just a dash of clear acrylic varnish can help tighten them back up, but it's only a temporary fix since it'll wear off again pretty quickly

Varnish! That makes sense -- anything that would increase the diameter of the peg and/or decrease the diameter of the hole a little bit would do wonders to help the joint be a little more secure. Will have to try this next time I happen to have them out and have varnish on hand.

Ohhh I see now. I didn't think that the joints on a revoltech worked that way. I thought they were like a figmas. Based on the picture I would THINK (in contrast to what I've heard) that the joints are better since I haven't found an effective way of fixing figma joints yet :(

Revoltech have updated their joint system since then - they're v.close to figma joints now, but have these annoying (to me anyway) gears inside them which are supposed to help them hold poses better (but I find they actually hinder the movement tbh) and they're rather obvious and bulky since the company likes to show the wretched things off!

Their mini Iron Man figures are worth getting for the light up feature at that scale (and all of the awesome flame effect extras) but the joints really ruin him for me - I much prefer the older joints Revoltech sported, tendency to fall off and all!

Edit: However I should add that Revoltech are very good about selling their joints separately for kit bashing:

A quick search on EvilBay brings plenty of them up
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksi ... &_from=R40

They could be a good option for replacement Figma joints since (ignoring the gearage) the two systems are fairly similar - it should simply be a matter of altering the posts/holes

I always think It's really great when companies put a lot of details into small figures. Its really showcases effort and quality design.
I actually didn't know about the replaceable joints. Thanks for that :) I knew that you can't buy separate figma parts but the revoltech joints do seem very similar.
