This is the kind of Krylon that was suggested to me by a person who does face-ups. It isn't the usual automotive/craft type of Krylon.

Have you guys heard about it? I'm hearing that I shouldn't use Krylon but was told this was safe.

Wah! I wish I could find MSC!!! If anyone knows of a resource I've yet to find, let me know. <3

Krylon has a number of mediums for uses ranging from simple car kits all the way up to Hollywood movie creatures which can be made from things like foam and vinyl so it could be possible.

It's what I used on Jim and he hasn't melted yet. Though the Nico head is irreplaceable so if it melts, I'm screwed.

Mixed reviews. Some say it is ok. Some say it leaves a dull grey cast to the faceup. Some say it gets gunky. No one said it damaged resin, but no one says it's great.

The Vallejo Matte that Emory had (has?) seemed to be the best substitute for MSC.

You can find MSC for $15 on eBay, sometime even less. I eventually broke down and bought it because my other sealant was being iffy on me.

I tend to go to evilbay for sealers too nowadays, especially after the last major hobby chain in the UK shut up shop. There's a few MSC listings up right now.

(Though I prefer Tamiya TS80 for my resin and ABS guys; it just seems to go on more evenly despite my heavy-handedness, and doesn't dull down tan skin. I'm honestly surprised by how few bjd people bother with this company's sprays when I know they tend to use the little pots of acrylic. And Tamiya target a v.v.similar market to the "Mr" range. They do little hobby vehicle kits and specialised paint for RC car bodies. And if there's any hobby group that know about plastic and how to abuse it without actual damage it's that one... It just makes me nervous that people in the bjd hobby know something I don't. But (apart from my vinyl guys - this stuff just seems not to seal properly on vinyl) I've been using this stuff nearly exclusively for over a year - with multiple redoes of face-ups and haven't noticed any ill-effects)

You are in the UK, the Games Workshop stuff is supposed to be good. Not great, but good.

Yea tried it and hated it I'm afraid - the pastels veered wildly between not sticking at all or going on unevenly as hell. (And don't get me started on citadel acrylics... gods it's barely better than craft paint, they have nice brushes though!) Could have been a dodgy can, could be it only comes in satin "semi-matte". Eh, apart from very occasionally needing MSC for my vinyl guys (it's still the only stuff I know of that doesn't go funky on vinyl) I'll stick with the TS80 unless/until I hear word against it. And fortunately it is readily available in the UK through online crafts shops (sadly I can no longer say the same for the physical hobby shops I used to buy it from but that's another matter)

I also really like the Volks UV Powder finishing spray for resins----I've used at least 25 cans of it or more and it's never failed. I really love the feel of the finish, too and how you can get really lovely blushing results with it.

It was available at Volksusa.com at a decent price, but now their site is very minimal, so I don't know if they're still selling it or will still sell it. So, it's kind of in the same boat as MSC, now. ^^;;
