BJD terminology for a n00b?

I'm not really clear on what some of the BJD terms mean... and I think I ought to know before i do something entierly stupid XD;;;; sooooo here are some terms I DO know!

BJD - Ball joint doll (I hope I'd know that one XD;;;; )
ABJD- Asian Ball jointed doll
Face up -BJD make up/ stylization thru paints and pastels

ahhh.... that's about it XD;; I'm clueless about terms like SD or MD or what a 1/6 or a 1/3 doll is. Sorry that I'm so stupid, but it's really help me out if anyone would be willing to tell me these things ^^;

Everyone has to start somewhere. Believe us, we did not know what they meant either. Before long you will be walking into stores and see movies labeled as 'WS' and your brain will automatically click to 'white skin' and not 'wide screen'. LOL

SD - Super Dolfie or 60 cm and up dolls also known as 1/3

MSD - Mini Super Dollfie 40 CM up. Also known as 1/4

Yo-SD or Not sure entirely but it's basically anything 20 CM to 30 cm.

Tinies - Self explainatory.

WS/NS - White skin/Normal skin.

RS/BBB - Bobobi/Resinsoul

JS - Junkyspot.

Sueding - To tighten the joints on a doll.

Like the person above me we've been in your shoes before especially when people never want to tell you what it means.

The terms SD, MSD, and Yo-SD were coined by the originator of the modern species of ball joint dolls, Volks. They are acronyms that stand for Super Dollfie, Mini Super Dollfie, and "Yo-is dat a tiny doll er what?" While in may circles these terms have become synonymous with their various size scales (like a xerox, or kleenex), Volks rejects this notion and many manufacturers have their own names for these size classes. If you speak about SDs, MSDs, or Tinies (Volks Yo-SDs are mostly small children and "Tinies" covers all the dolls of that size, including many of the animal varieties), all but the snobbiest of collectors will acknowledge what you're talking about.
The term dollfie is a contraction of the words "doll" and "figure", which makes sense when you find out that Volks got into the ball joint doll racket by branching out from their line of cast resin figures, which are made of similar materials. The original Dollfies were 1/6 scale then logically, if you were to make a larger 1/3 scale Dollfie it would be "Super". It is my understanding that according to Volks, their specific size categories represent the doll's age and there are more sub sizes within the various scales (SD13, SD16, etc.).

One that hasn't been mentioned yet is MSC, which stands for Mr Super Clear. It's the most suggested clear spray for doing faceups and body blushing.

A good way to remember 1/6 scale is "Barbie Size." 1/3 scale is about as tall as one barbie standing on another's head. 1/4 is roughly a barbie and a half. That's how I remember and make estimates of height. You couldn't shop from that, but it makes for easier visuals.

One more thing to remember is that while many people refer to ALL BJD as Dollfie, that term is a brand name refering to dolls made by Volks. If you want to sound like you really know what you are doing then NEVER use Dollfie as a generic doll term. Call them BJD or ABJD or refer to your doll by it's maker, size, or sculpt name

Sculpt: the name given to that particular doll by it's manufacturer. Example: Bobobie Weylin, Dollzone Yuu, etc...

It's considered good form to let people know the maker and sculpt of your doll when posting pictures because that way if they love your doll they can go buy one of their own
