The Latest Trend For Bigger Dolls

We saw the trend for small, smaller and smallest, down to micro BJD...and now it seems to be going in the opposite direction. I remember when Dollshe boys were considered absurdly huge but now artists are producing dolls that are 80-90cm tall and weigh anywhere from 5 to 12lbs!

Do you think they will grow popular and that sizes will continue to grow?

I do know that life sized models are already out there. The amazing Papermoon Dolls for example. Despite their size they aren't sex dolls but they are more like manikins.

I don't know, size preference is so very personal, I've grown too fond of the MSD size that I wouldn't want bigger dolls anymore, let alone those ginormous ones...

There will always be artists/companies trying to expand the boundaries in every way imaginable. Whether there's market for it remains to be seen.

For me, there is not much desire to be shopping for "doll" clothes in the kid's section at Target.

I know Angel of Dream has had their 1/2 size boys for a few years now... I used to think I wanted a bunch of 70cm dolls, but now owning one of them, I think I'll limit that "bunch" to around 4. I like the ones in the 50-65cm range, but 74cm is just a bit overwhelming. I can't even imagine owning one that's 90cm. That's the size of a child. But I'm just one person out of thousands that are in this hobby, so obviously I can only speak for myself lol~

I would be surprised if the giant dolls ever become a real hit among collectors. Even in the normal SD size range a common comment is that they are intimidating or too much to handle.

They also have a lot of issues: cost for the doll, cost for needing customized clothing/eyes/wigs (as few would be made for this range) , space needed to display/store, and if you ever decided to resell it would be difficult to find a buyer.

After seeing a dollmore Lusion, I wouldn't doubt that they will try anything. (And that there even will be people out there that will buy it.)

I have a Raggedy Andy doll from my childhood that's 90cm (I just checked, he's 91cm) and great googly moogly! I couldn't deal with a doll that big O.O Poor Andy's saving grace is that being cloth I can wedge him into any old corner, I can't imagine trying to find a place for a resin in our tiny little apartment. Andy is over half my height to boot; I'd have to have an assistant just to maneuver a doll that big! But I'm sure there will be buyers and even devotees as long as they're well engineered and have appealing sculpts.

I have one fashion doll boy that's about 20" and sometimes even that's too big for me. I do want a BDJ but I'd be very happy with something under that. Anything bigger is just too big for me. I can appreciate them but I don't particularly think I'd want a bigger one myself.

I wanted an Iplehouse EID boy the first time I saw them-that lasted only until I picked one up. They are way too heavy for me to carry. I am loving tiny size-the majority of my collection is 30cm and under with the under 15 cm rapidly growing.

I don't want anything larger than 1/3, either. Even 70cm is too tall for me. I'd love to get a Lian head and a Feng, but on the 60cm. body, if that's even possible.
I don't think the huge ones will be big sellers for the reasons you've all mentioned, but I could be wrong. I could see them becoming status symbols for those reasons too, but that would still limit their customer base considerably.
The tinies are different. They're just totally adorable.
