Remember Lammily? The reviews are in!

Oh Lammily...

My issue with Lammily is that the creators obviously had good intentions regarding promoting body image etc, but they've created a toy which perpetuates gender stereotypes. Lammily may have a more realistic body, but ultimately she just a dress up doll; she doesn't DO anything. Only boys get to play with action toys. Girls have Barbie or spotty chunky Barbie. Neither can pose well at all.

Little girls don't learn about body image from dolls, they learn it from the women in their lives and, unfortunately, from films and so on. No little girl thinks she's supposed to look like Barbie, but she probably does think she's supposed to look like Katy Perry. It's not an issue with toys, but gender stereotyping really is.

Rant over :D

As a kid it used to drive me round the bend that there were horses made for my dolls, but my dolls couldn't sit on them properly

I (and my sister with me) broke at least two set of Barbie legs when trying to ram them sitting on a horse! I am not alone!

But yeah. I'd like to see, too, more dolls who are not just looking pretty, but also capable of going things - like riging a horse or bending their arms/knees.

I remember the first Liv commercials showed them turning cartwheels and showing off their joints.

Growing up my Darci got to ride any Breyer she wanted. My Barbies all had the same Superstar face, click knees, bent arms, and it didn't seem to bother me. I remember tying a horse with a popsicle stick splint on its leg to a shoe box with some yarn and having a carriage. Just having a boy doll would have sent me over the moon. I didn't even know about things like body image until it was bullied in to me in middle school but I didn't take it out on my dolls. I liked that all my girls could share the few clothes and shoes I had.

Found another one (I'm sure there are more): http://adayinthelifeofmydolls2.blogspot ... art-2.html

Yeah, I was always frustrated by my dolls' lack of articulation as a kid (click knees don't count!), and also at Barbie's shelf-like hips that made sewing pants that fit her almost impossible. At least Lammily has that going for her, but then again so does the Fashionista body.

Recently I've been thinking a lot about how to make joints with a decent range of motion work on a bigger doll. It's pretty tricky since plastic/resin/etc is completely unflexible, unlike the human body. Best I can think of would be some kind of beanbag body with an internal armature, but then we're entering OOAK territory for sure...

Thank you! It's a Liv body with two part epoxy sculpted up. The brand I used was Milliput in the terracotta colour so that saved me the effort of repainting the body lol.

I'm going to have to try that sculpting trick some day, it's a great idea.

After reading that review, I'm kind of wanting her again. I don't know if she'd go on my "must have" list, but would certainly be on the "nice to have" list.
While she isn't the most posable doll in the world, she really doesn't seem that bad. Plus, I do like her face. She's kind of charming.
