I meant floppy, loose joints, hard to find clothes and shoes and wigs for discouragement. :P

XD. Well, I like to sew and like to have as many different 1/6 bodies to sew for as possible, so the 'hard to find clothes' is actually a bonus for me. Shoes, tho... yeah... I'm actually afraid to put shoes on Denia, even if I had any that fit. Not sure I could fix it if one of those little fiddly ankles broke. Wigs, well, all 1/6 wigs are hard to find or out of my budget. I'm looking into making my own or just sticking to rooting. And the joints? Well, Denia's are still decent so far, tho the right wrist seems a little easy but not floppy. To me, the joints really just seem kind of fiddly and fragile, so I'm very careful in posing her. I'm almost as scared of accidentally breaking her as I am when I handle my lone Phicen.

Denia agreed to be photographed sans-clothes (all I've really made her so far is a loose shift dress) for reference, even though she's still in the Work In Progress stage:
Image
I'm 98% sure she's an EB Mini, but I'm not sure the exact bust size/letter. She's tan, and I got her here secondhand. Scalewise, she'd be about 4 1/4 ft tall. XD
The face is still a work in progress, as I want to do some more modelling there, make the nose bigger (Barbies can have unreasonably tiny noses) and probably some work around the eyes and forehead. Maybe even a little on the ears. When I'm happy with the sculpt, I still have to order her some hair and root that in (or remove the last of the old blond stubble and learn to make wigs), and give her a proper faceup.

... I think I may be the only person intentionally making a teeny little old lady doll.

I like having different types of bodies too, although in the end I'm usually too lazy to make them any clothes. :) Volks elbows and hands are notorious for falling off all the damn time. Obitsus definitely pose better, but I like the look of the volks bodies, particularly the guys. Also the different brands have slightly different skin colors, and I'm picky with color matching when I rebody. I only have one Volks mini, but he's a bit on the floppy side, so I can imagine the larger guys are too. The ankles don't seem that fragile, but they often end up coming loose and sticking in the shoes. (I just pull them out with a crochet needle or something.) As for shoes, I have a pair of Liv sneakers that fit pretty well.

Also, that modded Barbie head is pretty cool!

I'm holding onto a hope of someday having an etsy story specializing in 1/6 stuff. Furniture (I like working with wood), props (I like polyclay) and clothes for every 1/6 doll I have one of to properly sew for. :) So far, I have woolly nylon thread coming in the mail, a diaper pattern to fit Kelly-Barbie, and a panty pattern for bellybutton barbie that just needs me to get some more practice in sewing spandex. And the right colors of polyclay to start on some pastries.

Oh, yes. I like my Obitsu regular and slim guys, but the Volks boys? I want to make a FF9 Kuja out of their 'natural' skinned slim guy. And if I can't get one, I'll pass on making a Kuja. I can't think of any other 1/6 guys that might pull off that outfit. Kuja shows a lot of skin. And their other guy has some nice muscles. XD

I can be too, enough to where Dynamo's head (originally from a Fashionista Barbie) was completely painted to match his Obitsu slim body. And then ended up working on his jawline with the dremel some more and have to go back and paint it again. XD Denia's head will be getting a paint-matching procedure, too, once I finish any final additions to the sculpt. And Alya's had it done around most of her jaw, because I de-smiled her Barbie Grin with an exacto-knife and then went back and caulked the dimples left at the corners of the mouth.

None of my Liv dolls arrived with any shoes, sadly... but I plan to learn to make shoes. :)

Thanks! Some of the wrinkles were done with a dremel, and additions were done with caulk. Incidentally, Red Devil All Purpose Caulk will adhere to a barbie head as if it was an original part of it. I've even swapped Denia's head onto a different body (she was on a Liv, but I decided the Volks girl suited better) AFTER I did her jawline like that with no damage to the sculpt modifications. :)

Not a colour match at all - but in terms of being a near perfect ripoff...

Volks on the left, Sideshow on the right:

(Not my images original discussion here: http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forum ... rt-16.html )

The Sideshow Pro body is suspiciously similar to the old Volks bodies and available fairly cheaply on evilbay etc. since people tend to buy Hot Toys bodies to put the heads/outfits on
