I'm very happy you fell for her. She's a great character/doll and I love seeing her out doing the things she does.

Thanks, I just love how she and the other 3 worked thing work out, was almost afraid of getting into a very demanding hobby in terms of wanting more big dolls than I can handle.

Likewise, if the ratty-haired mess from the bottom of the rummage sale bin makes you all giddy when you think about taking her home and doing whatever extreme things are needed to try fixng her up, don't be ashamed. The real value of a doll isn't in the price tag, but in how much happiness they bring.

The expensive and really big one turns out to be the one that buy clothes at a very slow speed and very willing to wait, The really cheap one is semi retired but still get first dibs on 1/6 clothing.... I seem to be rotating the 1/6ers and 1/3 as I like enjoying them slowly.

My first doll was a pink and white plushie named Poppy. I was an infant. Does that count?

Okay, how about the Barbie army I played with when I was a kid? No?

Oh! Do my 6" Sailor Moon and Jewel Rider dolls count? I was a teen then. Not yet?

I know I know. How about my Winx dolls in college? Are those my first?

Oh, do you mean Lola, my first doll bought from across the globe? Maybe?

What about Feebee, my first technically ball-jointed doll?

Or do you mean Amiga, my first 60cm big doll?

Sorry if I seem like an ass, I was having fun with this.

LOL! You don't seem like an ass! I think it's great that you have such a long history with all kinds of dolls. :) Now that you mention it, I did have all those Star Wars guys in between my babydolls and Barbie dolls and my Sashas. :) I guess they'd count, too.

LOL! By that standard, my first doll was Jonathan, a hard-headed baby doll with a flannel body with a pink floral print (yet when I got old enough to name him I insisted he was a boy). I still have him, though the flannel has weak spots and dryrot holes. Lately I've been slowly crazy-patchworking over his body with scraps of flannel in various blue prints.

He was once one of two toys used to occasionally prop my baby bottle up so the Evil Overlord wouldn't have to be bothered with holding me or the bottle for feedings. The other one probably doesn't count as a 'dolly', since ol' plushie Tommy Tortoise, is, well, a tortoise. I still have him as well, with large bald patches in his fuzz, one eye missing (they just stuck on, it's a small miracle he still has the other, and it's very loose), and the stuffing in his neck has shifted elsewhere...

Here they are on the top of one of the bookcases.

My first major doll purchase was definitely my iplehouse JID Leona. And now I can't stop buying all the prettieh dolliehs. I kind of have some hoarding tendencies  I was just going to get one MH doll, a basic Frankie and now I have upwards of 20 of the little stinkers. And then all the adorable little Dragons and yeah. I'm doomed.

Yes, she's an Apricot Sherbet Reaa, though I had to retouch her face-up because it was too delicate, almost washed out, and totally without lips... I was really tempted to get also a Black or a Mink one and gave her a sister, but I recently fell in love with Aimerai Virginia. I really enjoy having different dolls with different body structures and Virginia girlish body seems to me to make a good contrast with Dahlia mature one.

Whitedove01s, Jonathan is a cutie :D and reminds me my first plushie, a bunny name Tippete, that was a male bunny even if he is dressed in a pink cute jumper and that I had to sew together again so much times (and before I had some sewing skill) that now looks like he just arrived from Hallowen City ^^'

Just like Jobee-san, do the blinking eyes baby dolls, plush dolls, hundreds of play Barbies, Sailor Moon and other fashion dolls count from early childhood? ^^;;

Not even the $40-$50 limited edition Barbie dolls or Precious Moments dolls count, right? (Or do they since they were 'special' particularly wanted doll purchases? If so, it'd be my Gibson Girl Barbie from the Great Eras series. I remember wanting her so much that I made my dad drive 60 miles to the nearest Toys R Us store that had her in stock---obviously this was before the internet and online shopping abounded! :laughs: )

Or does this thread concern the super 'expensive' beyond the norm type of doll, I think?

So that would be the 1996 Sailor Saturn 8" BanDai Japan Doll. She was $176, with a damaged smashed box, (otherwise, she'd be $250) and at the time when I bought her, (1997) I thought that was way too expensive to spend on such a small doll! (I still do, but she's the 'rare' one, so....what can you do if you want the whole set?) In fact, I remember when UPS brought her and I opened the box, I thought the seller sent the wrong item---she was soooo tiny! Not 11", but just 8"! I remember panicking after spending so much that she was the wrong scale, but then I found out that Saturn was supposed to be smaller. (At that point, I never saw the Sailor Moon episodes with the 'Outer' senshi yet and just wanted the whole set even before we 'met' them.) Even after seeing the episodes, she should've been 10" not 8" (she was taller than Mini Moon) but I guess BanDai was 'cheap' and didn't bother making an in between sized body. Ha ha!

However, if we're talking 'big' dolls, then it'd be my Dollfie Dream 60cm Serenity Wheeler. I remember just being in complete awe of her and her 'big' real shoes!! :laughs: She was acquired in 2005.

:D

I suppose overall the first big/fancy/expensive/whatever doll that I owned, though I didn't buy it for myself because I was a kid, was my American Girl Felicity. Twenty or whatever years ago now, back when American Girl was just historical and the catalog was full of beautiful pictures of full rooms made from their accessories...

...That makes it sound like I don't still have her, she's sitting in her chair in my closet with the resin kids, with her own doll from the Christmas set on her lap. I need to do some work on her hair, poor dear.

The first big doll I bought for <i>myself</i> was my first resin and first BJD was Ryo, my Doll In Mind Real. Back around the beginning of 2008. He's still my biggest and most expensive doll, I'd ordered him from Junkyspot as my college graduation gift to myself. Just dove in head first and went straight for the big guys. That was a fun and exciting adventure, because I hadn't originally intended to get the Real head, I'd ordered the Doll In Mind <i>Rain</i>. And then spent some time late that night emailing back and forth with Emory because it turned out the Rain wasn't there after all. After some flailing and having my heart set on getting a doll we changed the order to the Real.

...It was only after that I discovered that Bobobie 1/4 are like freaking potato chips. Can't have just one.
Ryo - DIM Real (NS)
Ariel - BBB Sprite (Blue)
Peaseblossom - BBB Ariel (Lilac)
Bast - Fairyland MNF Woosoo Vamp (WS)
Bernadette - Hujoo Berry (Apricot)
Mustardseed - Realpuki Tyni (NS)
Dove - BBB Pixie (Chocolate)
Loki - Hujoo Jake
Monster High Toralei
Monster High Clawd Wolf
Perneth - RS Pixiu (Sky Blue)

My very first doll was a handmade rag doll that was given to me when I was a newborn. That poor girl never had a name, and she lasted until I was maybe in my teens before she either fell apart or ended up in a goodwill bag.

I've had COUNTLESS dolls growing up. Barbies, Cabbage Patch Kids (and the knockoff types), My Little Ponies, collectible porcelains... you name it, I probably owned one at some point in my life.

My very first BJD purchase was this guy:

Image

He's a Luts Delf Moon. I saw a BJD on DeviantArt and after a year of going back and forth, I finally caved and bought one for myself. I told myself I only wanted ONE.

Nine years and 40 BJDs later....

My first BJD was Rune, although Vespera was technically the first one home. He is a ResinSoul Jun, in white skin, on the single jointed body. He arrived to me in rough shape.
Image

But four years later, he is still with me, after about five face-ups, and a body upgrade, then a new pair of hands. This is how he looks today. He now has a Dollzone B-45 body, with ResinSoul Sui dragon hands.
Image
He still needs a body blush, and I need to make his other outfit, and his armor, and sword, but he is still with me.
