Has anyone ever done business with Tokyo Doll?

This got me interested and frightened me at the same time xD I never went to check the price but I did look up videos of the moving the joints. The cracking... terrified me. I kept researching and I saw hot toys has a similar line(?). Basically seamless jointed 1/6 bodies. Oh my....yeah, no amount of glue is gonna put that boy back together. His arm looks like terraforming!! I believe the material may be a little different on Tokyo Dolls, but I can just see so many pitfalls with that....plus they sound like you're breaking bones when you pose them. Ickkkk. *Shudder*

In terms of 1/6 I was looking into getting a seamless body for one of my larger amazon. But I own the 1/8 Moby Dick Gumby body Chun Lis . One of them had a tear in her armpit and that just makes me wary of seamless body even if its a replaceable 1/6.

I don't mind shown joints since my dolls are fully dressed most of the time and I'm play intensive. Unless the seamless body is a perfect match in skintone for another one of my Chun Lis,

Can't think of the company, but the sculpts remind me an awful lot of "Something Or Another Angel", the sculpts are quite racy but they are ultimately jointed, it just doesn't show as much. I wish I could think of the name, I see them up on Y!J all the time! They might be a nice happy medium for someone who likes Tokyo Doll's sculpts?

These are essentially Obitsu 50cm and 48cm bodies with custom vinyls. They use the same skeleton parts as regular Obitsus so I don't worry too much about breaking them.

I believe that the Tokyo Dolls are made with silicon rubber.

There are additional problems if, for instance, you happen to get one overheated. Anything that parts of it were resting against take on that texture--for instance, you would imprint fabric texture on every part that fabric was pressing against. Unfortunately, this is not like memory plastic, and reheating the doll is not going to get rid of that texture.

The Volks elegant line I think were similar to the Tokyo Doll material---they were 1/6 seamless rubbery dollfie bodies that had wired limbs to pose.

I had a few of these and they were a horror in so many ways!

1)Collected dust nonstop as K2-sama specified
2)Looked like Gumby when posing (also as K2-sama mentioned)
3)Broke the wires in the legs and one arm after just a few poses (probably because it's 1/6 scale and the wiring is so thin!)
4)And was a terror to dress and make clothing for! Everything would 'stick' to the body and not slide up easily at all, so she always seemed like she was coming 'undone' or not pulled together all the way! It was difficult to find shoes that would fit her properly and she really looked awful in clothes because of all these factors.

I think these seamless bodies are for collectors who want swimsuit model dolls because that's the only way she looked all right and you could actually SEE the 'seamless' aspect of her!

Volks discontinued these bodies pretty quickly, I'd say for the reasons we're all talking about.

Ahhh, I never realized Volks attempted this as well!! The seamless dolls are a good idea aesthetically...if they could be done right! The problems seem never ending though! I could see in theory where they could look very pretty, but...yeesh, sounds like they have a long way to go!

Yes, the Yamato company was restructured (?) as Arcadia and the doll line (VMF50s) became Angel Philia.

Yes, the Angel Philia and Azone dolls are specially ordered by those respective companies from Obitsu. Parabox gets their custom bodies and parts the same way.

Yeah, the cracking sound is unsettling. I have a Phicen here at home that i just put away, she had so many problems. The cracking sound was just one of them. I want a Tokyo but it probably wouldnt see much love, like my Phicen. Phicen dolls are gorgeous though, check out the rocket man:
