My first (kind of) meet-up was at Otakon at a ABJD panel that Angel Toast did. I had seen ABJDs on eBay and had drooled over them wishing I could get one, but at the time I couldn't afford one, but when I went to the panel at Otakon, getting to see them close up and meet all the different people that owned them was fun. It was, there that pushed me to get a few of the ABJD I have now. Granted it was a panel and not really a meet-up....all the people there were friendly and there was a lot of great information. I then found a group on DoA called M.A.D.E and I was very nervous going to my first meet with them. It isn't a large group it is about 10 to 12 people and they were super friendly with me. I hit it off well with everyone in the group and I meet with them just about every month. I also met with a another group in the Arundel Mills, MD area and the people there were friendly too. I don't go to that one as much as the other due to it being farther away and schedule conflicts. The Arundel group people were mostly into ABJDs but when I bought my Obitsu Erin doll, they didn't say thing about it. A few would ignore her but many people would ask about her and even got some photos of her. The M.A.D.E. group is much more laid back though. They are open to also sort of dolls which I totally love. I am a member of Chesapeake Doll Club in Annapolis MD and they are mostly older woman in the group. Some of them have expensive antique dolls, but some have new ones too. I was surprised at how welcoming they were to my dolls. Thankfully I have not run into any of the snobby doll people, and I hope it stays that way. *smiles* :D

PS: If you're in the area, I don't know if you've heard, but there's going to be a BJD expo in May over in Poulsbo. It's the Pacific NorthWest BJD Expo.

:o

There iiiiis? Poulsbo is a bit out of the way for me, but I'm new to the community, and hadn't heard about this.
I might have to go... at least for shopping... *hides back in my safe corner*

To everyone posting, thanks so much. Sorry I haven't really responded, but I've been reading what you've all said, and it makes me feel a bit better. I'm hoping to dress Flo up in his nicest clothes and take him to SakuraCon with me...
He's also going to the movies with me some time in march, when I have another friend with me to back me up. xD

Recently I also ran into a girl at a Target who had her boy with her, and we chatted for a little while, so, just that gave me a little more confidence in even talking to other doll owners. xD
(I should have got her info though, I couldn't believe how hard I derped later, when I realized I didn't ask for an email or anything...)

But yeah..... He's definitely coming to SakuraCon with me.

:D

So many people coming to Sakuracon!!! I didn't know you all were that close...unless you're not. I'll be volunteering, so if you meet a girl with a tag that says "Oddish", say "hi"! I'm going to the Pacific Northwest BJD Expo as well, so maybe I'll run into some of you.

I finally found one doll meet up near me only for it to stop meeting after a I joined! Turns out everyone takes a break for the winter months. Shame, it was such fun talking dolls and being able to look at them in person. It's so much different than simply looking at pictures online.

My online doll experience has been awesome, what with everybody here, and on JS, and a few on DOA. But in real life, my doll experience is pretty lonely. I'm the only one I know who collects BJDs (though my friends and twin sister support it, they don't get into it like I do). I'm hoping to go to a doll meet here in March, we'll see if that pans out (trying to convince my parents to let me go to a complete stranger's house? Yeah.).

Flea, our group pretty much requires that minors come with a parent - at least the first time - so that everyone feels comfortable. Would that be an option for you?

I've only been to two. The first I didn't have a doll and felt sort of weird. The second Micah came along. It was fun, but everyone kept calling him a she. Didn't do much for the little guy's confidence. (haha, I jest.)

LOL! That's what comes from making assumptions! And while we do have people drive down from Chattanooga and up from Albany, I think you might be a bit too far for our Atlanta area meet!
