I had a longer reply cooking but, I really think it boils down to this: anyone who sets out to rob you of your joy in this hobby, for whatever reason, isn't worth wasting time with.

I certainly hope no one here is being a "reverse elitist" and snubbing folks with the higher cost dolls - I wouldn't tolerate that either! This is a place for all dolls (well, ok, I'd prefer no one bring any "reborns" around because those really creep me out) as the manifesto clearly states. Nothing wrong with loving dolls that happen to cost more - if I were rich I'd probably own several of those beautiful Iplehouse dolls that are currently out of my price-range :) I'd probably also own a lot more other types too.

And yea, people here do snark at DoA, but in defense of the forum I'd like to note that I have shut down several threads for DoA bashing and have specifically said that I won't tolerate bashing of them, or any other forum for that matter because in the end we are all places for doll fans and all have value I'm a member of DoA too after all :) An occasional snarky comment or two I let slide, but remember that if something is getting out of hand, anyone is welcome to let myself, or another mod know! :)

its good to see everyone seems to be on the same mind set here on this matter. no matter the price as long as you love your doll that is all that matters. and i know even myself i own resinsoul and aod but i would love to have an iplehouse chase. we all love our dolls and there is no reason to dislike someone else in this hobby because of their chose of doll. we all love them for one reason or another and that is what brought us to this group. so we should all just enjoy knowing one another :)

You know why I don't have an 1/6 dolls anymore? Even though I eyeball the Monster Highs and I adore Cherry?

Old eyes. Can't see to make the clothing anymore. Love 'em, but can't do 'em justice. But boy I sure admire them here!

Another form of this is extreme cheapskates. I'm one of those people who doesn't mind investing a little bit of money in to a "nice thing" that will last for awhile and can part with something that isn't useful. If you're related to a bargain hunter who will hold on to a $5 pair of shoes you can't wear because they're uncomfortable but someone they know will want them you know what I mean.

In many ways this is a get what you pay for hobby. I've seen differences in wig and eye brands, half round plastic Masterpiece do look as good as their others, but honestly haven't touched an "expensive" resin to see a difference to mine. The Orientdoll and Dollzones feel the same.

i think cost is very much relative. i will never begrudge people that can afford thousands of dollars into their hobbies. i know too many geeks, lol!
but "cheaper" dolls are not really cheap either. scrimping up the cost of a mirodoll body, undoubtedly on the cheap end with their sale prices, can still take months. and sacrifices do have to be made in terms of clothing. it's less being a cheapskate, and more still having bills to pay despite wanting to participate in a hobby.
i mean, heck, a 2-300$ resinsoul body is, like, an insurance payment and a months worth of groceries. O_o

You don't *have* to make them new clothes, just enjoy them! I know, I know ... I'm telling a seamstress to not sew ... ;)

I would say that a majority of people in the hobby don't really care or look down on others because of what they want to spend on a doll. There's just a small minority that can be vocal about it.

Plus, I think some people end up sounding snobbish about prices when they are attempting to defend how much they did or didn't spend. They might not actually be snobbish about price, but they can come off that way.

Thankfully the only doll meets I've been to have involved the only 2 people I personally know in the hobby, and none of us care about who spent what.

First off, change your vocabulary. Your dolls aren't "cheap", they're inexpensive and there's nothing wrong with inexpensive. Monster Highs, Bobobies, Obitsus, etc. are inexpensive dolls. "Cheap" dolls are the knock offs you get at the dollar store that are made of plasticized cadmium and painted with lead and cobalt. Materials-wise, there isn't anything all that valuable or special in those expensive dolls, no precious metals, no unicorn blood, no baby seal bones. They are expensive because that's what the manufacturer wants to try and get for them. Believe it, if those dolls weren't selling the prices would come down pretty quick.

Secondly, when you run into one of "those" people, either on a forum of at a doll meet, be pleasant, don't try to counter their comments or explain anything to them. Their minds are already made up. Just move on. Don't give them another thought. There are plenty of other people and places that know the value of inexpensive dollieh love.

Third, remember that you got the dolls you have because you wanted those dolls. When most people look to buy a doll, they look at the doll first and the price later. Then a compromise between desire and cost is made. Sometimes desire wins and you get the doll (regardless or because of the cost), sometimes the budget (or lack thereof) wins and you don't get the doll. I don't believe there are many people who decide to buy a certain doll solely because of a high price tag, although there probably are a few.

If knowing your doll is the most expensive on the block is what's important to you, great. Go for it. But I would like to think that most people here are like me and bought their particular dolls not because of what they cost them, but because they loved them.
