Dollieh temptations and plans

Well, I decided to go ahead and add Merida to the Disney Princess collection. I had been staving it off, due to lack of space and mainly that I didn't know she had a possible prince love interest---but now, just having seen the movie a few weeks' ago, I saw that she had 3 suitors! :laughs:

I'm going with Wee Dingwall because of 3 reasons, but now to buy all the corresponding doll and figure and plush!

I've been on a sort of spending spree on eBay today because I got a 10% coupon off all items (without a minimum cost) so I figured, it's as good a time as any to start on the Merida collection.

So far, I bought her:

11" Talking Doll DS
5" Mini Doll
1.5" Tiny Figure
Music Box
Elinor Bear and 3 Triplet Cubs doll companions
Ron Stoppable 10" doll that I'll be transforming into Wee Dingwall (wish me luck with THAT! )
17" Talking Doll
2" Zizzlingers figure to transform into Merida

So that just leaves left to buy:

20" Plush doll
4" Figure (and a figure to turn into Wee Dingwall to match)
1.75" Small Figure
Wedding Dress for 11" doll (Never made, so I'll have to make it/design it--shouldn't be hard, 10th Century medieval gowns are simple and still elegant! ^^)

Soo....now I've bit the bullet and just have to find the SPACE to add her!!!

Now that I've finally found some fabric that matches Dr Rush's off-white (Which gets steadily more Off-white as the series progresses... So I think there are going to be at least two of them, mucky and clean) undershirt thing, I think it's time to restart my hunt for a waistcoat and a tshirt that matches his on-screen one. I've already found some suitable boots and jeans in the generic bjd clothes world, all (hah! All. It's taken me more than a year to find this stupid waffle fabric!) that I need now are his not-as-brown-as-it-looks t-shirt, his waistcoat and his glasses. (Since in show he looses the watch and rings to some evil aliens...)

I've found some super high definition promo photos floating around if anyone is curious about the undershirt's weird fabric weave. Though for some reason all of the promo photos show the over-t-shirt as far more brown than the fabric is in real life. Which is problematic, since until I acquired a small sample of the shirt in question, I too would have said the blasted thing was brown from the lighting conditions in the show but it really isn't.

In real life the fabric is that weird midway point between brown and grey, which if it had any green in it I'd happily name khaki. I've got a fairly worn out t-shirt that's an "almost" match, also being in that weird midway range of colours - but it's got a lot more blue in it than the onscreen fabric. Bugger. This not-brown not-grey either is going to be a real pain to match for - and I'm tempted to match to the brown that the t-shirt looks like onscreen - since most people would read the not-quite-grey as utterly wrong anyway.

Note the varying amounts of muck on his sleeves, and the extra-long cuff area. They get pretty caked in filth towards the end of the show's run. (I think I'll include the bloodstain from his not-actually-heart-surgery scar too on the mucky vesrion of the undershirt)

Iplehouse came out with a few new YID boy sculpts and I think I may need to replace Andrew on my wishlist with the new Oscar. He still has a bit of a smirk though less pronounced and freckles! For some reason I think the character I'm planning for should have freckles now. XD I also kind of like the big bushy eyebrows.

...gods... Sooo the Dollzone 65cm body that both Nick (Simply Divine Alec) and Vimesy (Myrretah's Cain) were sharing has turned out to be not quite right for either of them... And I think I've now settled on two decent, but wallet stabbing options... They aren't going to happen for quite a while but:

The Ramcube 67cm body for Vimes - the insolent slouch is perfect

And the rather thin/delicate looking Akagi 66cm V2 for Nick... It's still got enough bulk to be Robert Carlyle-esque, but fits my idea of semi-starved space faring insomniac mathematician!

I just hope the 67cm with the addition of the Cain head comes in as noticeably shorter than Havelock when the time comes!

I'm actually having trouble putting together doll plans that'll work, because my income vs necessary spending conditions changed so much with our new apartment.

Stuff I need to do:

Buy new wigs for Berkana, Couria, Marcus and maybe Mitty, and find a curly carrot colored wig for Sparks. I also wanna buy a new wig and pair of eyes for Pilot, because she's spoiled.

Get a Dikadoll Peach and have her switch bodies with my Dollzone Dale

Get bodies for Marcus and Sparks, and a new head for my 27cm Obitsu. Maybe get new bodies for Pilot and Berkana as well.

That's all I remember from the top of my head, and that's not even all. I still have a Resinsoul Rong, a dark tan Impldoll Moon and a white Withdoll Nana on my wishlist, but that's probably not gonna happen in a long while ._.

To summarize: My doll plans are way too intense for my budget. Bah.

The "weird waffle-weave" you are referring to is what is called in the US "thermal knit." The shirt itself is thermal underwear, often cotton, very commonly sold in the US, standard US Army cold-weather issue, and the color is generally cream. I've bought dozens of these for the Spousal Unit over the years.

As for the T-shirt, it is, in fact, a dark, standard US Army-issue, khaki.

Hah! Thanks for the info! Got to admit I wouldn't have pegged that weave as being thermal underwear, though I probably should have - it's just the thermals I've seen have been ...fuzzier and with ugly floral-ish/cable designs woven into them, even the men's ones

I would argue the point about the brown/not brown t-shirt though, the swatch I've got really does show up more at the blue-grey end of the spectrum in direct sunlight than the green-grey end I'd expect from khaki. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and either get a brown bjd tshirt that's a close enough match to the onscreen look (given the lighting of the show it really does read as brown most of the time), or spend an embarrassing couple of hours comparing the swatch directly to stuff next time I'm out clothes shopping.


...Oh and I've finally worked out why one of the members of my floating head hoard just wasn't taking to any of the face-ups I gave him, thanks in part to the DOA thread on the company. The floating Saint is probably a girl, and when the face-upping bug hits methinks I'm going to end up attempting to replicate the unhealthy pallor Uma Thurman was sporting in Pulp Fiction, since I'm not above gender-swapping the character!
