No more Invitations to Den of Angels

I think you're doing the right thing!

I never liked DoA. Most of my posts were torn apart by doll snobs and I just got sick of it. Like, I'd post a picture of something I worked very hard to make and the comments I got were hurtful ("I'd never use velcro! I'd rather take my doll's head off to put the shirt on than have velcro! I can't believe you'd be so stupid to use velcro. It looks awful"). I've not been with this community for very long, but I already know that the people on this forum are much nicer and more accepting.
Do you have any idea what that will do to my complexion? People will mistake me for a planetarium!

Or it's more of "I can't believe you thought of something and actually did something about it before I did and it makes me feel insecure and powerless that you beat me to an idea I thought made me the most special snowflake in the universe. So I have to bring you down to find any reason to feel better because I haven't reached another level of maturity."

What did you make? Did you post pictures here yet?

I go enough to keep my membership valid and to look at pictures of dolls I don't have.

It was back when I first got into the hobby and was a newb at sewing. I've been banned from DoA for standing up for myself when one of the moderators decided to be a jerk and pick on me lol

<----Amen to that one. No idea is truly original and I get so tired of seeing people fighting of stupid things like "Well my mage doll backstory is original because..." "No mine is more original because..." No. Just no. We can all be special fucking snowflakes, capisci?

CrazyYoungCatLady Omg, you were banned for standing up for yourself? Seriously, what went down? How stupid. :( I know plenty of our members have "dual citizenship" as it were and I KNOW there are sweet people on DOA but there is no denying that it has it's dubious reputation for a reason. This isn't the first time I've heard people being snobbish about velcro, which is hilarious to me because being a 1/6 customizer I (and my dollieh seamstress) know that using velcro is unavoidable most of the time unless you're going for a specific look. If you just want to mimic a shirt closing? Yeah, velcro. I know on the bigger dolls you can sew a bit more "realistically" (as in you can sew mini versions of big people clothes to scale) but the smaller you get, the harder it is to keep clothing thin and manageable without velcro closures. (You use snaps and whatnot and eventually you have a 23cm doll that looks like it's wearing a snow suit if the outfit has layers. ) But still...the comments box is there for everyone to give either compliments on someone's hard work, or if the person has asked for it (or you feel they'll be receptive) CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, not outright bashing on someone's work!! Ughhh. It's stories like yours that make me so, SO thankful for DS. Welcome aboard by the way. <3

Oh, the mod PMed me to tell me that my thread was against the rules (that they seem to make up on the fly, btw). She was a total b*tch about it and was very snobby and condescending. I told her that I realize they have to close certain threads, but she didn't have to be so rude about it.

I've been a member since 2009 but apart from one post I made within a few days of joining I've remained a lurker enjoying the wealth of information on offer without indulging in the 'banter' that goes on.

I made my second post 14 days ago on the Doll Leaves 1/3 girls thread politely asking if anyone could help in regard to what shoes may fit my girl..... now I know that the DL 1/3 thread isn't the most active over there but 14 days later my post still remains the latest on there which surprises me a little but hey once I've sorted out some footwear I can answer my own post

I joined in 2009 as well, and appear to have a grand total of 43 posts to my name there! I go there occasionally these days to look at the pretty pictures and that's about it.

I'm not a member of DOA, and I'm not too keen on becoming one, too be honest. I know a lot of people on there a supposed to be very nice, but I just hate elitism and it seems that DOA reeks of it. That being said, however, it does have a wealth of information and an amazing marketplace that I desperately want to be able to access. I wish the forum didn't have such a monopoly on BJ forums. Or, at the very least, allow for an easier way to join. Nowadays, if you are new to the hobby, it is near impossible to break into DOA which makes accessing information on the hobby quite frustrating. Meanwhile, the only other BJD forum I have found is DS, which I am very thankful for. This community is perfect, especially for a newbie like me. :)

We had a couple of age threads on DOA, "Over 50" and "Over 60" because us old farts got sick and tired of getting overwhelmed by people with no lives outside dolls and anime. We were NOT exclusivist and we had several "youngsters" posting in there with us (basically for the same reason). We had a nice, compatible group with no drama, so, of course, the mods (who have no lives outside of dolls and anime and couldn't understand people who had mortgages and responsibilities) decided to close them down.

Now I mostly lurk, only post on the sewing threads, and troll the marketplace. Big fat middle finger to the rest of them.

I think this deserves a big...What...The...FUCK? They decided to randomly shut down a thriving, non-confrontational sub-community? Now, unfortunately right now my hobbies tend to revolve around yes, sadly, anime and dolls (in that order), but I'm an adult (although probably what you'd consider a "youngster" at 25 vv  ) with adult responsibilities that often far outweigh and trump my hobbies (oh, and also, as much as I love collecting and learning about them, geode/mineral specimen forums and the people that write in them are yawn-inducing so that non-interactive hobby is out  ), and unlike a lot of people I can actually...you know, stop talking about anime and dolls for more than three seconds. Your threads sounded reasonable and sane, so they were promptly closed. :?

SymphonicEnkelli Trust me, you aren't missing much. I understand the marketplace is very attractive to a "newcomer", but you need to realize they're just as elitist there as they are in all of the other areas of the site. They probably wouldn't take nicely to a buyer who isn't able to fire off rapid "BJD speak" answers, which many DOA members seem to treat like their own secret language. I make no claims to know what people are talking about 95% of the time with resin dolls, and talk like "Double Jointed BS SOB Li Li FU DOA" (See what I did there? XD) is like speaking Greek to me. Even for people who have made BJD their "second language" sometimes for one reason or another just aren't kiss-ass enough. I have like five posts, and when I posted an honest question in the category specifically made for newbies to ask questions about the hobby I was met with "WTF how could u not know that y u so stupid?" type reactions, most of which were from idiots completely misinterpreting my freaking question. It's like they can't wait to eat you alive and excrete you back out.
