Hi all has this happened to you? Before I got my first bjd, I was eyeing this bjd I wanted. I told friends about it and they ran out and bought it. At the time I felt bad but I got over it. I know better now. Now when I buy stuff I don't tell anybody until after the fact.

It wouldn't bother me... each doll is different, even within the same sculpt. They would each have their own face up and personality and clothes. So what if all my doll friends ran out and got the same doll, as long as I got the one I want that's all that is important to me.

It doesn't/wouldn't bother me. I guess it would be a little weird if someone made the exact same character as mine, though. Maybe? The rash of chibi-Ivans that invaded the forum were pretty cute, though! <3 They were a plague of cuteness.

Well.... I did buy a doll on ebay after someone mentioned her. I felt bad but I am not sorry. She is very special to me. I was involved in her creation, she was a charity raffle donation. But if someone is inspired to buy a doll sculpt because I am praising it, I am always flattered. I think that there can always be more Obitsu Haruka dolls in the world!

Pretty much the same as what other folks said about buying the doll you like and play/personify it your way. Some folks here have gotten a Parabox Megu after I keep spamming her as herself or in different clothing style. I think of it as something in my Megu's personality or style 'speaks' to the folks who like her enough to buy one of their own or that they can see their doll/character in the way she happenes to presents herself at that point.

I bought a Pureneemo forest cat Aika that is similar to what two of my friends have. Mine ended up with a new head of hair and took up archery on account of OC character background.

We're big enablers here for connecting people with dolls. I remember being so happy to find out someone had same mold twins of one of my boys he wanted an outfit just like them. A lot of us here collect Barbies, Monster High, and other store bought dolls so "I have that too" happens a lot.

It's all about enjoying your dolls and what makes them special to you.

I have one friend, with whom I have almost opposite taste of dolls. But there are few sculpts we both adore. And If she'd buy one of those before me I would not mind, and same goes in other way I am sure.

For me, it's always wonderful to see different types of characters done with same dolls I own.

Only thing related to this would be copying my character exactly. That would me me sad and mad. But luckily that has not happened yet.

The only part that would upset me is with them buying the same doll as me, I don't get to see OTHER sculpts that they might have bought instead. I'd rather them buy something different so I can see different kinds of dolls in person.

Well, dude, this would clearly mean that you have good taste.

I can understand that feel, though. It'd be like they "got to it first" and then whatever you came up with would seem like a second-hand deal or less unique for some reason afterward. Well, here's the thing--it's not a contest...! And whatever you do with that sculpt is going to be unique and apart from whatever anyone else does, no matter who does what first. It's friggin' unbelievable how different the same sculpt can look just with a different wig or clothes or face-up. Identical sculpts can be practically unrecognizable from each other when each has a different owner...! That's one of the things I think is really cool about this hobby. xD You really can't help but come up with something unique unless you deliberately copy someone else.

I'd get angry if I'd been looking at a For Sale thread, told a friend I was looking at that thread, and then said friend swooped in and scooped that specific doll up in front of me, though. That'd be pretty rude...!
