List of Poseable Animal Doll Makers

Postby Wispalian » Sun Apr 05, 2015 8:58 pm

Hi all!
So over the past few months I have been on a bit of a mission to compile a list of companies that create poseable animal dolls. All mediums are included, they just have to be made to resemble animals, real or imaginary, any size or scale. That they must be at least somewhat poseable and of an animal are the only restrictions! I thought I would post it up here in case it is useful for anyone since in all my searching I couldn't find a list that focused on just animal(not including anthros), and hopefully this way everyone can add to it!
*Note on anthros: I'm hoping to not include too many of them since there are many lists dedicated just to them already and they fill kind of a different role in the doll world(at least to me... 8-) ). This being said, I did include some anthros; just as long as they are more on the animal side of the sliding scale of human---animal anthropomorphic-ness (Official Title forthcoming.) If there's a lot of demand for anthros then maybe we could make a forum for them too, but not for this list.

Here's the format I've been using. It's really rough, but at least it's quick!...Right? Use it if you have anything to add!
Name
Description: (Give details about what they make, how they're articulated, prices, what currency they use, country they're from and anything else applicable that may help people.)

Lisa Toms
Seems to have just come back after a year long hiatus. Casts and some originals. Partly floppy, partly ball and socket armature. All sold out in her shop, currently. Has an etsy store but has not used it in a year. Takes commissions. How to order isn’t very clear, unfortunately. Prices in EUR, unsure what they are. Based in Spain.

RhiannonWoolf
Sells some dolls on ebay, so price depends on the auction. Takes commissions through facebook. Wire armature. All are original sculpts. Based in Australia.

Ideationox
Makes all sorts of things, including animal dolls. Items currently in her store vary from USD $50-$700. Wire armature. All items OOAK sculpts and patterns, does fully furred faces. Based in US.

Aileen Doll
ABJD company that makes some really cool pet BJDs. Most have a lot of articulation despite being small. Made of resin and strung. Have dragons and winged cats, as well as some more realistic sculpts like cats and foxes(who are really, really cute). Dragons have lots of articulation, the others have lesser amounts. Most are sold out currently. Prices seem high to me, starting at USD $135(for a blank fox)-$285 for a dragon with faceup. Based in Korea, where dolls are cast is not indicated.

Camellia Dynasty
ABJD company with really great looking pet dolls! They have a fox, a bunny, a cat and a horse. All are highly articulated. Made of resin and strung joints. All come with eyes in the basic versions. All pets come in black or white resin. Prices range from USD $99(for basic, unpainted animals except for horse)-$142 for a bunny with paint, two pairs of ears, and two face plates. Dolls also look good without faceup. Horse costs USD $129-$134. There are also accessories you can get for the pets such as wings and horns, which cost extra. Based in Hong Kong, but very reputable.

Creatures of Nat
Has lots of very detailed art dolls. Cast faces. Fully furred faces and hand dyed and painted fur. Offers some premade dolls and some customs of certain types. Wire armature. Prices for dolls range from USD $200-$380. Makes some really amazing looking kangaroos. Based in Australia, but uses US currency.

Homemade Horrors
I’d talk about how awesome they are, but their website says it better. Their creatures are all ball and socket armature, no wire, so they are really durable. They rarely take customs and even more rarely commissions, and when they do they fill up like mad. Prices are in CAD and can fit just about any budget. Based in Canada.

vonBorowsky
Makes OOAK ball-jointed animals, all sculpted from cold porcelain clay; not casts. Is working on having her first doll cast in resin though. Does little painting; the colours come from the clay. All handmade, including the eyes. Commissions currently full. Very pioneering; has a definite cute and colourful style without being over the top. Based in Brazil.

Mystery Taobao Shop (if someone knows the proper name for this shop I would be much obliged if they could tell me!)
Unsure of name; makes tiny, minimally articulated but very cute BJD resin animal dolls. Currently all prices are 108 yuan. Many items have beautiful face-ups.
http://shop58194822.taobao.com/

Anya Boz
Very well known for her room guardians. Made with real rabbit fur, no casts, wire armature, poseable legs, crystal ‘heart’ in each creature. Items sell very fast, typically for around $300 USD.

http://www.anyaboz.deviantart.com

Asmus Toys
Currently has two ⅙ scale very realistic looking horses available for pre-order for $135 USD each. 15 points of articulation, rooted mane and tail.
http://asmustoys.com/index.php?route=common/home

BJD Pets/Eve Studio*
Does cats, and also dogs, spiders, foxes, dragons and a rabbit. You can buy as raw parts (needs finishing and stringing), ready to be assembled (needs stringing) and assembled. Some are just 3D printed, some are either 3D or resin.
Price depends on size, material and how finished you buy it.
Based in Russia, I think

Elleo Dolls*
Cats, dogs and one horse at the moment. Verrry similar to BJD Pets/Eve Studio, and also based in Russia. Just enough differences to make me think these are a newer, different company.
However, there's a comment at the bottom of this interview that says they in dispute with another artist. As I can't find anything more about that at the moment I'm adding them to your list too :)

*Thank you ShortNCuddlyAm!

Obitsu**
Makes two types of dogs in different colours. Very, very highly articulated but not the most endearing of faces. Prices vary depending on retailer, but not by much. 2000 yen from Parabox. Also available from Junky Spot for $25.99 USD.
http://parabox.jp/eng_new/dog.html
**Thank you K2! !

Walloya Morring
Yet another Russian shop with 3D printed BJD animals. This one makes kittens, foxes, fennecs...and tarsiers, including a devil version. They also offer interchangeable magnetic face plates. The eyes are removable, so I think they would be changeable? I'm not entirely sure what currency their prices are in; their website seems to use USD.

Limited Dolls
Note: These animal dolls are limited and likely made by companies who don't usually have animal sculpts on offer. As such I feel they need a category of their own to hopefully avoid some confusion and disappointment. For these, the links will go directly to the animal dolls' pages to simplify.

Dollzone
They've made a few different surrealist/highly stylized animal dolls. Currently they have a limited edition sheep/flower? inspired animal doll available for $199 USD. Based in China.

Impldoll
Baby crocodile doll. Enough said. $145 USD blank to $247 USD with all add-ons, available in multiple colours.
http://www.impldoll.com/category.php?id=88

Soul Doll
Has a very realistic and highly articulated greyhound doll (limited edition) currently available from $304 USD to $439.

I don't think these were added…

Ooh, thank you so much ShortNCuddlyAm! I can't believe I forgot those two; they look amazing! I added them both to the top posts; I hope you don't mind!
I think one of them also has a tarantula now, or did? Or maybe that was another company. 3D printed tarantula would be seriously cool.

Also, your avatar reminded me; I'm hoping that one day soon I will be able to add Makies to this list. Makie Horse pretty please Makie makers? Please!

Eve Studios had the tarantula but it doesn't look like they have it available as option right now. Cute little thing though!

A Makie horse would be awesome!

ShortNCuddlyAm-- I thought it was them. Hopefully they make it available again; it was cute and more affordable too.
Yes, Makie horse! I would buy that so, so fast. It would be dangerous but I would still be happy. I can just imagine it!

K2!-- Thank you! I didn't even think of the Obitsu dogs! That articulation. *.* Will add!

Made a dedicated post for limited edition animal dolls from companies that don't typically offer animal sculpts. Those always depress me since they are usually amazing and long sold out when I find them. T.T Hopefully making a separate section for them will help make things more straight-forward. :)
