I'm a total newb to this sport, but after hours of picture-looking, I've really fallen in love with Dreaming Dolls's Little Elva Airi. I see on their event page that a free face-up is a current event (youhvae to add it to the cart, I think), but I'm not sure if that's really a "special" or if it's always the case for the company. Does anyone know?

I'm not familiar with this particular company, but I can say that free faceups are rare from any company so it probably is a legitimate sale. Depending on the company a faceup can run anywhere from $10 (Bobobie/Resinsoul) to $50 or possibly more - I don't usually get factory faceups so I can't really speak to the high end, only what I'm familiar with.
If you like the doll and like the faceup they are offering, then a freebie is a good deal

When I got my Brownie he was a full set with a face-up at a deep discount for what ever reason.
Maybe he was a practice face up, maybe they had too many, maybe he was a factory second with a flaw I've yet to find, maybe they want to get rid of that skin tone or resin batch. It just meant more money to get extra hands and stuff for him.

I'm not familiar with that specific doll company too, but actually only one emerging company between the ones that come to my mind offers free, really basic face-up, Fantasy Doll (but they ask 25$ for a "custom" face-up), so I think that's really a special offer.

I haven't seen a Dreaming Doll in person, but that's my daughter's favorite "someday" sculpt for one of her characters. I'd don't check out their site very often, but I don't think free face-ups is typical for them - you can see it's an "Event" and normally you'd use the drop down box to choose a faceup or blank head.

Thanks, everyone. Wow. I was kinda hoping it might be one of those "deals" that's always on and that I could actually get her on sale at some point and still get a free face-up, but you're right. After looking at how everyone charges for faceups (and a LOT, too), that probably is the best I'm going to see in the near future. :-/
