What would be a good place to keep dolls?

As of now, I have no dolls (so sad) and I recently turned 16 years old. I'll be getting a job soon (currently applying) and it won't be too long before I should be able to get my first BJD ^U^
I already know I'll be getting a Dreaming Doll Lovely Betsy http://www.ddollshop.com/shop/step1.php?number=920

After I convince my parents (I don't think it'll be too hard) I need a good place to keep her and future dolls. I have a desk which, although large and has shelves/places for the doll, is a bit wobbly and I don't want something that expensive to fall (and the stuff I already have on it falls very easily). I also have a bookshelf which is of course also wobbly, and a bit short and considering I own 3 cats, I don't want any to knock her over.

I was thinking of purchasing a floating shelf like http://www.sugarcreekhomedecor.com/images/forty-eight_six_quarter_inch_wall_shelf.jpg and keeping her and future dolls on that. Most I've seen are relatively cheap and I think it would be a cute display and I know my cats wouldn't be able to reach her.

As long as it's anchored into the wall properly, I don't see a problem. I know several people who keep their dolls on shelves with no issues.

What Kirahfaye said, especially about making sure it's fixed to the wall properly.

A lot of mine are on wall shelves, one's on my desk, some are on top of a book case, the Makies live in a book case on top of a dresser… I've only had any fall off where I've put them if I've knocked them!

Make sure the shelf is positioned so it's not easily knocked into, and it's probably best if it's not directly opposite a window, and you should be fine

I have mine sitting down, I don't trust them to stand without a dollstand. I have those stackable wire cubes, that way I can even set them up in individual 'rooms'. Top floor is for the married couple, next down for my two other MSD boys, next is for the YoSD and tinies... bottom floor is for all of Momiji's clothes (he's my clothes horse). Mainly you want a place OUT of direct sunlight!!!!! The sun accelerates the yellowing that all resin dolls will do over time. Also if you have pets... you'll want a place that is either inaccessible to them or too small for them to bother. Cats LOVE to steal wigs, I think they believe them to be tribbles...

That sounds like a good idea I might try something like that one day! Yeah even though my window and the blinds are rarely open I plan to place the shelf on the wall the window is located, since there really isn't room on the other ones. I'm also thinking of getting curtains t block out even more of the sunlight.

Mine are everywhere. I have stand alone shelves, screwed into the wall shelving, and my desk. Like Yanagi-sen, my BJDs all sit except for one and she's on a stand.
One small piece of advice about the floating shelf that I learned the hard way: don't attach it to a wall that might be affected by a slamming door. I had trouble with one of mine that was against a wall where the opposite wall was next to the front door. My hubby has a door slamming problem and a bunch of Barbies took a header one day.

One of our internal (non-weightbearing!) walls wobble slightly if you lean on it too hard! Fortunately we found this out before we tried to put shelves on it (but not before something that had been precariously propped against the other side fell over )

Shelves are great cause they can dangle their legs off the edges. I keep everyone on a bookcase except for Jim, because he's too big to fit. He sits on a doll couch on the floor. But I don't have animals inside so that's not an issue.

You'll have to share lots of pics when your doll comes in!

Yeah I just wanted to double check it was a good idea with some more experienced doll owners.

Trust me I'll be taking lots of pictures once I'm able to buy her!

Most of the time, my dolls and their stuff are packed up. I have a little suitcase for most of them, and a set of plastic drawers for my big girl. That keeps all their clothes and wigs and props safe from the kitties. My big doll sits on one of my higher bookshelves, in the shade. I have a lot of bookshelves though, lol! And I have one doll on my desk, which is also wobbly. I recently picked up a doll chair and have been sitting a little one in there at a time, it's been great! Good little chair, has rubber bits on the legs. If they're in the nice sturdy chair, they don't fall off my desk. Naturally, I'm sure an earthquake would prove me wrong!
