MiroDoll Controversy

So DOA has banned Mirodoll because they claim the company has recast other doll sculpts. There is a lot of conversation going on in a couple of my FB doll groups about this and I was wondering what the thoughts were here, both forum management and members?

We here at the Dollieh Sanctuary will get our expert personnel and our exhaustive resources right on this issue. Watch for a tweet once all the research data is in. (sarcasm)

Oh! Really? Their sculpts all seem totally original. (Most are not that great in my opinion, but very distinctively 'Miro' and some actually do hit the mark nicely! [Wind is pretty])

I hope it's not true! But if it is, why would they do such a thing after all this time?!?

Oh, Miro! I hope they had a chance to defend themselves. Innocent before proven guilty, right?

Eek!

Definitely guilty before proven. I don't really like how DoA handled the situation...

It's not all sculpts, in fact it's only 2 of the bodies. The 70cm female body (which I don't agree with) and the new 1/4 female body (which I do agree with DoA).

Miro says they have a new sculpter and "he didn't know he wasn't allowed to use reference photos". But that 1/4 body looks too much like the reference photos in my opinion.

I'm just frustrated that after all the years that the 70cm body has been out, and was considered "ok", they just now are banning it. I understand the new body but to suddenly ban one that's been "ok" for years just baffles me.

I guess there was never enough proof one way or the other about the 70cm but it seems like it was always under suspicion. Add this new copied and modified body and it seems a pattern might be emerging? I don’t buy the “he didn’t know better” excuse myself (especially if the 70cm IS a modified version of someone else’s body), but to each his own, I guess. I don’t own any Mirodoll sculpts myself but it was still surprising to hear about this. I know it’s a popular company to get inexpensive dolls, especially for those just starting out.

Glad you laughed. It was supposed to be humerous.

Well they can ban all they want but if you don't post what doll body is under the clothing in your pictures I defy them to figure it out and ban your photo.

There is a wonderfully sarcastic post in the thread about it on DoA where the poster pointed out the similarities between various other dolls from different companies.

I've also seen speculation that Mirodoll's apology might not be genuine - as in, nothing was knowingly copied but they felt they had to appease DoA to minimise damage to their reputation, and to ensure the ban is lifted on new dolls.

I'm not sure where I stand, to be honest. The pics I've seen show a lot of similarities, but not enough to indicate deliberate copying - based on how similar some other bodies can be from different companies.

Anyone wanna guess what body this is?

Oh well. Guess I just can't post her on DoA. As long as she is welcome here, then that's all I need. I like you guys better anyway.

(She's not bad, she was just sculpted that way!)
