bjdbaby? Probably not legit, but asking just in case...

I asked OkamiKodomo if she knew anything about it and she didn't and she said it was ok for me to post here and ask others.
I found this site last night and I figure the prices are way too good to be true, but on the extremely off chance that there is some legitimacy behind it, I thought I'd ask if anyone knew anything about it.

Then after searching for some info, I learned about recasts/bootleg dolls...so I figure that's what this place is, but again, just in case, I'm asking...

I REALLY don't want to get into a discussion about illegitimate dolls please, but ug I was so looking forward to gaining access to the marketplace in DOA someday and maybe get a good deal on a 2nd hand doll, but then I learn about these recasts and it's scary to think that you could end up paying $600 for a $100 knock-off :/ That was one person's experience.

Also wasn't sure if awareness/spreading the word is good or not... so if this turns into an argument, please delete this thread.

Err.. I think it's safe to say these are illegal recasts... When something seems too good to be true, it usually is. And this DEFINITELY is.

-edit- I did some research and apparently this website is known for its illegal recasts. A clue would be that Iplehouse and Soom don't sell through any other website than their own. It would probably be safest to remove the url and the name of the website from your post until mods get to it.

Considering that those dolls are going at less than half their full prices... I'd be inclined to say that they are knock-offs. As a person that makes dolls, this kind of thing disgusts me. >.<;;;

There's no need to be inclined to say so ;)

While searching, I found blogs where people help each other find recasts... ugh

*sigh* yeah, I figured that was most likely the case. I just HAD to ask in case somehow the mirage was real T_T

I only left the link in because there wasn't really a way to ask about the site without the address being pretty much blatantly obvious hehe

As an artist PERIOD, it disgusts me.
On IMVU my meshes are constantly being stolen. For 3 years I spent 10-15 hours a day most days of the week slaving away at my computer to make those and people started using illegal software to steal meshes and textures and submit them to the catalog as their own products and sell them.

Fortunately at least there I have SOME recourse. If I found products stolen from me, I could file a DMCA and it gets removed. Unfortunately the thief gets to keep all the money they had made from it while it was there though, and they don't even get banned or reprimanded in any way at all :/

I wouldn't worry about that too much. Knock-offs tend to be really poor quality, and you'll notice that that site was mostly using company photos. They're often full of noticable defaults that cameras will pick up. You simply can't make a quality doll like the original for the price they sell the knock offs for. The mods over at DoA are incredibly ontop of the whole knock off thing and I've heard that on the rare occasion one gets posted for sale, it's usually quickly identified and removed. Just make sure you're buying from someone with good reviews and you won't have a problem with that sort of thing/

Oh good, still a bit worried though since I don't know what the used doll marketplace is like... I kind of assumed that not that many people sold theirs frequently, so figured that not many people selling their 2nd hand dolls would have much of a feedback profile.

Just to add to the database of info: I decided to send them an email.

Are you selling illegal recasts? I mean, I think it's quite obvious, but just checking to make sure if you'll be honest about it.

This was their response:

If they are indeed using Paypal, perhaps they should be notified. Paypal doesn't like doing business like that.

O.O Wow. Just...wow. At least they're honest? How does one go about reporting something like this to Paypal?
