How to convince mother

Postby Alopecia No Hime » Wed Jan 23, 2013 5:24 pm

To let me buy an MSD....

I told her I wanna open up commissions and with the MSD I have in mind I can use her as a perfect model for most styled outfits but she just heard I wanna spend 185 on a doll and said (saying I'm not having an open mind when I infact do) I should instead use that money on a sewing machine and earn money for her (the doll not my mom) through commissions....

Last I checked not many people open up commissions for clothes for Obitsu or tinies anymore.....What can I say to her to convince her? I really wanna go into the MSD size so I can not only enjoy bigger props and such and the cuddlier size (yes) but to also sell my outfits. I can't use AG's and measurements for me are virtually useless as I have a hard time understanding them sometimes.

Any advice here? So I can sound mature and NOT close minded cause I've been considering this for a year. My mom keeps forgetting AG dolls cannot be used as a model because their too bulky.

Well... do you have $185 laying around right now that you can buy the doll with?

If not, perhaps the better idea is to listen to your mother and raise money first instead of expecting your parents to pay for her first and then paying them back.

Why not go ahead and open up a commission thread in the Sell Your Skills section and see what happens?

I wasn't going to ask them for the money, I was going to raise it myself by selling things on ebay.

I'll give it a try though.

As long as you are making your own money to pay for your doll, your mom shouldn't get upset over what you want to spend it on.

-__-; then again, she IS your mother and mothers tend to overreact to things like spending a lot of money on a single item.

I don't know what else to tell you, other than prove how much you are committed to getting the doll by doing what you can to raise your own money for her.

I agree with Lamia. Show your mother that you are committed to getting this doll buy raising the money. Sometimes it helps when they see your determination.

You guys are right. I'm gonna start small and see how it goes. I'll let her know I'm opening up commissions.

Which doll did you have in mind? And I agree about getting the money ready.

It was a used Kid Delf Aru on the Marketplace. She's available with face up and random color eyes for 185, she's a little yellowed and has a chip on her wrist but I can't tear my eyes away. She's worth it in my eyes. I'm hoping she'll stay available until I'm able to buy her. I'm gonna start small, selling one of my AG dolls on Ebay and making some small batches of clothes for tinies for sale.

If you don't want to sell your AG doll and want to start in the MSD range, there's a decent market for AG items on Etsy. The clothes aren't very MSD compatible but props (sleeping bags, chairs, etc.) are close so you can get some stuff for your future doll going as well.

I thought about Etsy but I decided to sell this one (Samantha, I'm not selling my favorite AG girls so I'm not really missing out) so someone else can enjoy her....And me and my mom came to an agreement. I'm gonna start selling batches of clothes meant for tinies and she's gonna get me a sewing machine for my birthday.
