I Feel Like a Bad Dollieh Owner...

My sister and I had been working on this Hujoo Action doll together for the better part of a year. When the wig arrived, she asked if she really needed a wig cap. I told her I'd worry about it later. I know that was probably not my best move from the get go, but I didn't want her worrying about it. Well, between bills and rent and a few surprise expenses, later never really came.

You probably know where this is going, but I was changing the doll's outfit while she was at work (I thought I'd surprise her with a more in-character outfit for the doll), and when I took the wig off, I found some horrible staining where the end of the wig cap rubs against the forehead and a few lines higher up the head. Do I pretend I didn't see it, order a wig cap, and clean it up while she's at work after it arrives or do I tell her the truth and offer to fix it (or teach her how to fix it)? It was my screw up, and I just want to make it all right.

Tell her the truth and offer to fix it or help her fix it. She may be mad but at least you'll be honest about it.

Or leave it alone and not worry about it. Unless you plan on having the doll go bald at some point, a wig will always be on its head covering the stains.
Doll staining is an inevitable fact of life. All the various plastics used to make our beloved are relatively porous and will soak in those wayward dyes. Given the same circumstances, all dolls will stain, vinyl faster than ABS, ABS faster than resin. So don't beat yourself up over it. Put her wig back on and enjoy your doll like you did before. She won't love you any less.

I think you should tell her about it first. A lot of doll stains can be removed with alcohol and magic eraser, but not all of them. So just in case, I think you should tell her about it now.

Then you can both try to clean the doll up together, and if it doesn't work out then like K2! said just remember that wigs will generally cover wig stains anyway. :)

You should be honest and tell her what happened. While you can certainly try to fix it, as K2 said, this sort of thing happens. Unless the doll is going to be going without a wig for long periods of time, then you won't see the stains, as if they aren't there.

I felt this way with the first stain Hazel got. Then I got over it - because she collects them! Do tell her about the stain, but it doesn't make anyone a bad dollieh owner. It's going to happen if you are actively playing with the doll. I think of it as a badge of honor - this isn't a "shelf doll" who is only to look at. She's a fun addition to creativity and your life!

Treat it as a learning experience for the both of you... Now you know that the type of wig you got will stain a Hujoo, and you can practice your dollieh stain-removing skills.

Be honest and explain what and why. Don't fill in her reaction already yourself by making silly excuses. Have confidence in your sisters ability to act acordingly to your mistakes and the regrets you have because of it.
Then both show the doll some tlc and learn how to remove the stains together.

AND buy a wigcap! :P

I talked to my sister when she got home from work. She just said, "I thought you knew." :? How is it that I'm always the last to know? We discussed cleaning it, but she's afraid of ruining the face up, so we're just going to leave it alone.

Thanks everyone!

Lif, don't worry. It's higher up on our collective to-do list

 Well, that turned out nicely. Glad to hear you two didn't have a fight or anything.
