FYI, $1 store bounce putty does NOT make good eye putty. When it dries it goes white and powdery, crumbles all over and makes an unholy mess!!! Does silly putty work? Just checking. Sources of real putty are few here. I thought I had it covered with the bounce putty but apparently not. What else can I use that I don't have to order from some BJD store online? The D's are eyeless till I figure this one out...

Look for something called poster putty or poster/picture tac for hanging things without nails. You can also try a new clean kneaded eraser.

Mint on Card sells Dollzone eye putty, which works really well and is cheap. I think Denver Doll Emporium also sells eye putty. As for normal stores, you can use sticky tac but that will dry out eventually. If you don't use silicone eyes, then you can try silicone ear plugs.

Clear silicone ear plugs work well for me!

I've heard that kneaded rubber erasers(which you can get at any art supply store) work well.

I tried the kneaded eraser and I didn't think it worked that well. It didn't have a lot of stick so the eyes were always falling out. The sticky-tac for hanging posters, though, works pretty well. It's a lot cheaper than the erasers and you get a lot of it. I'm still on the block I bought like two years ago.

The very best eye putty I've used is the stuff that Fairyland uses in their dolls. It's blue and it has a LOT of stick. A tiny amount goes a long way. But it doesn't leave any residue on the hands. I need to remember to order some from Fairyland next time I make an order there (assuming they sell it separately). The WORSE putty I've used is stuff that Elfdoll and Soom use in their dolls. That stuff is sticky and crumbly and I always have to dig it out from under my fingernails whenever I'm done wrestling their eyes in. I also risk leaving residue on the doll's face when I'm trying to get the heads back on. Gross!

I use a kneaded eraser, and it's so far my personal favorite to use as eye-putty. :) Unfortunately I can't remember what brand it is.

Really? The eye-putty I got from SOOM had the opposite problem for me: not sticky enough. The thing kept slipping all over the place and refused to stay in place inside my dolls' heads.

I think I will try the ear plugs next. They're easily gotten and cheap. I am very disappointed with the bounce putty though. I really thought it was going to be great and it just got all yucky as it dried out. I was prepared to have to change it out once in a while because it dried out too much but I didn't expect the powdery mess thing. It came out of her head and got all over the place on her face even. I had to wash them this morning. No damage that I could see but I don't think I'd use it again...

The worst putty I've ever had was some brown colored eye putty i think i ordered from mint on card. It was like $1. The best is the green stuff in my opinion.i haven't triedkneaded erasers but i didn't think they would work great, especially the brand new ones.
Because skittles are overrated.

Hmmm. It reminds me of clay, actually. Kind of tacky and crumbly. Not really sticky, per say. It worked well enough but I didn't like the texture or how it left residue. I had to take an ear swab and wet it to wipe the eyes off when I was done putting them in, cause they got all cloudy from the putty (yeah, they did slide a bit). Now every time I get a doll with that sort of putty I just toss it and replace it with the poster tac stuff. A lot less hassle in the end.
