Question about Island Dolls~

General discussions about dolls, new releases, doll reviews...you know, stuff that doesn't really fit in all the other categories but is strictly about dolls.

Question about Island Dolls~

Postby Gabrielleh » Sat May 18, 2013 11:17 am

This may sound silly, and I wasn't really sure where else to post it- But has anyone purchased from Island Dolls? They have some really cute 1/6th scale ones, but their website is kind of.. Confusing. My questions are:

A) Has anyone purchased from them before, and if so, what's your opinion on the dolls? Are they decent posers?
B) I'm really confused about how they price things. For example, http://www.islanddoll.com/goods.php?id=79 would this buy the doll as a complete package (IE, doll + head, outfit, wig, etc) or do those need to be purchased separately? It doesn't really tell you what you'd be getting, but has the option beneath to buy them individually.

Sorry again for such silly questions! Thank you in advance. c:

Junky Spot, Mint on Card and Denver Doll Emporium all carry Island Dolls if that helps any.

On the link for the doll, I think the $160 price is just the doll. To get her with everything shown plus a carrying bag it would be $330.50 before shipping. DDE has her with and without faceup in stock. She's a really cute doll!

That's what I initially thought too.. But the individual prices threw me off- The body itself goes for 130$, and the head goes for 50$, which would be 180$ I guess they knock 20$ off if you buy both?
I really wish they just offered a better description. If it's 160$ for the entire set, then it'd be a great steal!

I'm afraid I can't be of any help for figuring the ordering system from the company website. The resin isn't regular urethane resin, it's environmental resin, which has more translucence. The posing on the 1/6 dolls is wonderful. Viviana, my Island Doll Jessie, is the best BJD for posing out of my crew. In addition to being double-jointed, the upper arms and thighs rotate. :)

160$ is for the blank doll, without face up, eyes or wig. It's the head attached to the body, with a birth card (certificate of authenticity) and the doll box.

i have a 1/4 island doll. I'n my opinion, she is an ok poser, but the hole in her elbow joint is so small, the elastic cant move, so no matter how i restring her arms, there isnt a difference =/ but they somewhat hold a pose if she feels like it. as for standing, i cant leave her alone for 20 seconds  she is lazy and she decides when to do what.
Because skittles are overrated.

Lol! Oh no! I had that problem when I first got my RS Ju- I restrung her immediately, but the stuff I had was a little too thick for her arms. After I tried a thinner elastic it worked well. I've had to retighten it a few times though.
Thanks a bunch for your opinion btw. :3 I'm really considering saving up for one (Eventually, we're in the process of moving while my fiance switches to a university!), when money isn't so tight.
