OK so when I saw fairyland were gonna release littlefee in a tan skin I thought - oh well thats cool
but then I come home today and see they are gonna release minifee in a tan skin starting this friday until the end of august- I almost fell off my chair. I was gonna get a minifee for my next birthday - celine, but this falls into the ordering time frame so I think I might be temped to go for the tan option, but wondering how a tanned celine would look next to a normal chloe. There is also going to be a new head release called Ani, cant wait to see that, think they are going for the anime look with that one. I also see they are now dropping the acrylic eyes in favour of glass eyes, but I'm not sure it worth changing over and buying new sets. what do you guys think?
so anybody else suddenly feel the urge to own a tanned fairyland doll? I do like the pale skin but I think it might be nice to have something a little different.

just read this and felt that I have to add it.

* IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR TAN SKIN
- Order modification and/or cancellation is NOT accepted after payment has been confirmed. Please ensure that your order has been placed correctly prior to making payment.
- There may be small air bubbles, uneven coloring (eg. green, yellow or white areas), raised seam lines, and rough surfaces due to the characterstics of tanned skin resin. Refund/exchange due to such reasons is not possible.
- Tanned skin resin undergoes faster color change than other skin tones and it may occur within short time frame.
- Customization/modification of tanned skin dolls is not recommended. We ask you to make your purchase only if you fully understand the characteristics of tanned skin resin dolls and that problems listed above may happen.

ok so I read that and now am not so keen on the idea anymore. so - they can sent you a scuffed bubble marked doll with a yellow/greenish mark across it face- and you would just have to be ok with that??? erm... for that much money I don't think so. It kind makes me feel like its to risky. Can you imagine waiting all that time and then getting sent messed up one. It seems odd why would they send out poor products, I mean they check their doll don't they. I adore fairyland but reading this kinda made me question it now.

It's not that they are sending out poor products, it's just that the way darker resins are produced, they cant be sanded and occasionally the color isn't completely even. Usually they are made by applying color to the mold, so all the color on the doll is in a thin exterior layer, and so, can't be sanded without leaving uneven light colored marks. Light scratches will also be more apparent because the color isn't even all the way through.
Despite these problems, a lot of people really love their dark-colored dolls. Fairyland just wants to make sure their customers know the pros and cons of what they are ordering.

hmm... thanks for the info. I am new to Bjds so am still learning, and know nothing about tan dolls. I am still unsure if I want a tan doll or should just stay with the normal skin tones. Seems odd that they would only put the tan on the outer layer rather then mixing it into the resin. Are tan dolls ok for newbies or are they better for people more experienced doll owners? The next doll I buy will only be the my second one and I don't think I will get another after ( well not for a few years anyway)

Tan dolls are gorgeous, but they come with asterisks, to be certain. Most doll companies don't apply the darker colors completely through the resin (Bobobie, does - or at least used to), probably because it's time consuming. Doing so makes it risky to try to sand seams because the color underneath will probably be lighter. They also tend to "yellow" differently. I know for a fact (because I own one) that FL Beauty White ages greenish, although the normal skin tone yellows more normally. I've never seen FL do tan before, so there's no telling how it will age.

I know a few years back, Fairyland released tanned pukipuki as limited sets. And there was a limited minifee or two released in the past, although that tanned looked different/lighter than the choco-pukis did.

Fairyland used to be with Luts, and even after they branched out on their own, I think the resin is the same. I know Luts tanned dolls tended to go green at times, but not all of them. I have a tanned Dark Elf Soo. She's a beautiful chocolate brown, and in the seven years I've owned her, she hasn't turned colors at all. But I know someone had a tanned Luts doll and it turned green. I think this was because the owner took it out in sunlight often. UV rays are known to cause faster yellowing in dolls. That's why it's recommended to keep any resin dolls out of direct sunlight. I never take my tanned Soo (or any of my tanned dolls) outside for long periods of time, so that has probably helped to keep them from turning. Basically, using common sense will help greatly in keeping dolls in good condition.

Different tanning processes vary with different companies. I think with Luts current tanning process, the color runs all the way through the resin (at least with their real skin brown; not sure about the new colors they're just releasing). But since Fairyland resin is pretty much what Luts' old resin was, their tanning process is probably just the surface tanning. Overall, I wouldn't worry too much about their warnings. It isn't like they deliberately send out horribly deformed dolls or anything. Basically, it's just a way of covering their asses, so those people who MIGHT receive dolls with a few MINOR AND NORMAL "flaws" can't pitch a big stink about "OMG THESE DOLLS ARE HORRIBLE WANT MONEY BACK NOW!". Because some people are stupid and selfish and will actually do something like that, which is really not good business for the company.

I can't speak on the FL/Luts tans but I do own 2 tan dolls (AoD & RS) and 4 dolls (3 RS & IS) in other colours. All of these dolls have the colour of their resin all the way through. None of these dolls have visible seams and none have lighter sanding marks. It is possible for a company to produce a wonderfully smooth tan doll (or whatever other colour) without seams or sanding marks. To also note, one of my tans is the dark tan (special order) by RS and that is a very dark, chocolatey brown and no seams/sanding marks are visible on him.

Same here on the Resinsoul front. I have a light tan and a dark tan from them, both are smooth, the sanded seams are perfect, and they're tan all the way through. I love my tan dolls and would love to get more in the future.

My Lutz Tiny Delf Hansel is the Brown skin version. She is tan all the way through and I have reamed out her eye sockets to make the yes fit better, and sanded all the seams off and sealed her without any problems.

Fairyland dolls are my favorite BJD BUT I have to say that if the Tan dolls only have the tan resin on the outer layer I would be very disappointed.

It also makes no sense. It’s harder to first cast a slush cast of tan and then back fill with standard resin. Unless the Tan is so very much more expensive I can’t see why they would add such a meticulous additional step to their casting process. :?

Maybe if they did that in the past the new tan are hopefully going to use a revised casting method using fully tan resin. It would be faster and easier for them.

The new Tan dolls look like a totally different Tan than the old Choco resin dolls- warmer. Maybe they have developed a new resin to cast with and we will all be happily surprised. :D

I’m going to have to go out on a limb and place an order if they also introduce a Tan Pukipuki or Realpuki option in the months ahead. I won’t be able to pass that up!

And in that one sentence I've gone from being rather meh about the whole thing to really hoping they bring out a tan puki pukisha
