En Ubb dolls from NYC Chinatown!

So while I was on a trip to NYC i stopped off in chinatown, fingers crossed for a pullip knockoff (i admit, I have a thing for clones, fakes, and knockoffs. they're just so delightfully odd!). No luck on that front, but at one store that I don't remember the name of, there were a BUNCH of dollar-store barbie-like dolls. Not interested in those, but I found these two!

Yes, they have phone lanyard... things on their heads. They have the exact same faces, and I was originally just going to get the black haired one. But then I learned they were a dollar each, sooo... Yeah. I'm hoping to rehair and put their heads on a bitty bitsu. I've already ripped the bad stuff out of their heads - they're only haired along the very botton of their hair line and from front to back across the scalp, it's weird. Their bodies are REALLY well made, solid plastic and joints (at shoulders and hips, like a barbie.

Their clothing, though, is just ribbons glued as a tube top and skirt. Along with one glued from front to back on their crotch, lol. They have really cute removeable shoes, though.

Although things get odd when you look at the rest of their box!

Ddung? But they don't even look like the ones in the photo!

More ddung dolls that I don't even know who actually makes them!

Both the packages are exactly the same.

Hm, the writing on the second photo says "picnic ddung" (oh the joy of being bilinguial). I know that Ddungs are manufactured in Korea. Or something.

Luts sells ddung dolls.

Kind of an unfortunate name. *giggles*

I was gonna say, I've seen those Ddung dolls sold on Luts. They're something like $25 to $50 per doll. The mini Ddungs sell for a lot less (like $7 to $15 per doll). These seem to be bad knockoffs of the minis.

I wouldn't call these knockoffs of the ddungs though, they hardly resemble them, except for the art on the box. I think kd_bunchanumbers had some real knockoffs of them... well, real as in they look more like a ddung, :P

ah, well, I assumed that since there were pics of Ddung minis on the box, the dolls were meant to be (cheap, very badly made) knockoffs of them. I could definitely be wrong though. :)

The faces don't look like any of the ddung dolls I've seen, which is what leads me to believe otherwise - ddung dolls have really round eyes, and are shaded & colored completely different.

They might be knockoffs of something else entirely, but I still love them enough to give them lovely hair (once my ponies are done, that is!

Lols from my Flickr romps with the same knockoff, apparently she's still a Ddung knockfull, just a particularly fail type one that doesn't resemble the thing she's knocking off. Mine is still bald cuz I'm uber lazy about it...
