Carving out new eyeholes...

Postby Lamia of the Dark » Mon Aug 05, 2013 4:26 pm

This is a Volks midi head that did not have eyeholes. I used an x-acto knife to give her some eyeholes.

They're a bit uneven, but the eyes I wanted to put in there fit...

Well, I started by carving out a small hole and then gradually widening it by shaving away the sides... They were quite uneven at first, but I did my best to get the holes to the same size/shape.

They came out pretty good! And with the face up and lashes any unevenity will surely disappear. I'm looking forward to see it finished!

To be honest the uneven-ness would bother me a lot personally. Will you try to even them out more? It will be hard to get her eyes bevelled out correctly if her eye holes are so very different.

For the faceup I will probably only put eyebrows on.

I'll sand them to get rid of the rough edges but I'll probably leave the shape alone.

You might be able to use a little hot glue to even out the edges if you're afraid to take a blade to it again. Hot glue or maybe Liquitex Pouring Medium to build up the edges. It'd be a slow process due to drying but it might work better than hot glue. Hmmm...

lol, well, I did shave down the edges so the vinyl wouldn't be so thick and make the eyes look weirdly deepset...

Haha, I had that weird deep inset problem when I carved out eyes for a Monster High CAM head. I actually need to go back and fix it.
