Almost a snow day...

Postby embyquinn » Tue Dec 10, 2013 11:54 am

It's bitterly cold outside (well, for the Gulf Coast) and very very overcast. You can smell the moisture in the air and if it was ten degrees colder it would probably be snowing.

So of course, this being my only day off, I drag my beloved Cherry out into the cold and the damp and the wind to take a few snaps. XD

Image
The wisteria is stripped all but bare, and the stone bench is very chilly.

Image
Cherry, bless her, smiles bravely through it all.

Image
This was probably the most perilous part of the whole shoot...posing Riri on the lip of the scummy, half-frozen over birdbath. Thankfully, she didn't fall in.

Image
The wind really is bitter and piercing out there. Riri scans the skies for even a hint of sun, in vain.

Image
Still, trust Cherry to be able to find one bright spot of color in the dullness of the day.

Image
A semi-artsy picture of Cherry against the cheerless sky.

The outfit she's wearing was made completely by me--everything but the boots, which are squishy Barbie boots that miraculously fit.

Thanks for looking! <3

Well, I salute your effort Emby because I folded in the face of the same weather conditions. I had some unexpected time off and had planned a photo shoot but I was just too caved in to do it.

At least the overcast sky gave you some great light for the photos though. They turned out really nice!

Wow, embyquinn, I hope you don't mind me asking, what sort of doll is Cherry? She's precious!! Also, like Geektopian I salute your hearty spirit of adventure!! XDD, you shouldn't have said anything about that pond being scummy, because it came out crystal clear looking and gorgeous in the photo. Bah, it's too wet and cold here to do anything dolly. Slushy salted snow and dollies don't exactly mix. Still, your pictures look like a winter wonderland instead of my frozen purgatory outside. (I'm having nightmares of dropping Roy into a slush puddle and people hearing me sobbing for miles around. )

Also, your outfit is so cute! I want one in people size! XD It looks snuggly warm. Everything about this post made me smile.

@ShortNCuddlyAm: Thank you! Cherry's had that outfit for several years, and I just found it again this morning in a box in my closet. It seemed perfect for the weather.

@Geektopian: In truth, I wanted to take more pictures with at least one costume change, but the air was so cold and damp and the wind was so harsh that I fled back inside. The sun came out later in the day, but by then we were going out shopping and by the time we got home it was too dark to take any more pics (I'd wanted some with Cherry and Johnny, but ah well...maybe next Sunday...). But you're right, the overcast light was perfect for taking nice photos. I think my skills are improving bit by bit. And Cherry's such a wonderful model, no way to take a bad picture of her...

@MeltedCaramel: Cherry is a Moxie Teenz Melrose head with swapped-in violet eyes on a Volks Dollfie Plus tan body. It's my dream someday to get her a marrone Obitsu body, but for now, she's still uber poseable and, erm, curvy. :B I've had her for almost five years now (she was originally a Liv Daniela, then I swapped the Liv head for the Melrose, and last May I changed out the body for the Volks), and she's still my special girl. I am totally in love with her face, which to me is as pretty as any so-called "true" BJD's. The birdbath pic turned out a lot better than I thought it would be; it was just impulse to take the pic there and I could imagine Riri scowling doubtfully up at me and thinking "Mama, you're not REALLY going to put me on the edge of that thing over that icky green water, are you...? OMG, you totally are." But she was a real trouper and bore it very well. Still, I only took one picture because I didn't want to risk her getting blown into the water and getting all pond-scummy.

embyquinn Aww, I don't buy into all that "true" BJD....manure. I think Cherry is gorgeous!!!! Who cares if she's not all "OMG RESIN"? (NO OFFENSE to resin lovers. I know there are tons on this board who are perfectly lovely people, but there are what I not-so-jokingly call the "resin-elitists", to the point that I was warned by a well intentioned woman when first starting out that I would be "called out" for calling an Azone "fashion doll" a "BJD".) I particularly love the expression on Cherry. And I don't blame you for being afraid of pond scum!!! O_O Haha, the only "pond" around here is an actual one, so again, now instead of slush puddles I can imagine the approximately one million turtles that live in there deciding that Medicom foot looks good to eat. *Sigh* Too bad, there's some gorgeous park benches there, but the geese would be as interested in my dolls as me.

Also, nothing wrong with wanting a curvy doll!! :D I'm a bit of a freelance photographer, and I'm quite impressed with your pictures. I haven't seen any older ones, but the composition of them is gorgeous. I especially love the one with the little flower/berry (I fail at fauna), it has such a pop of colour. And your "artsy" picture...so pretty!!! Colour me impressed!!
