Liv body hybrid?

Postby Wardah » Thu Mar 22, 2012 4:45 pm

You know how some of the newest Livs don't have poseable arms and how the Twist and Dance Livs have stiff gimmick legs? Would it be possible to replace the unposeable arms with the arms from the Twist and Dance dolls? Or to replace the Twist and Dance legs with poseable legs?

If you have the determination, practically anything can be hybridized. I imagine transplanting the arms would be easiest, but you'd probably have to cut the non-poseable arm at the elbow, use heat to separate the poseable arm at the elbow, and shove the peg of the poseable arm into a hole drilled or dremeled into the non-poseable arm's elbow.

All said and done, might be easier to boycott the less poseable Livs and hope Spinmaster gets back on track with poseability on the next batch of Livs. :/

I've been trying to figure out myself what to do with a Twist and Dance body...love the upper torso in comparison to the normal Liv, but the waist connectors are completely dissimilar. It'll take a lot of work to hybridize those.

You could always create a cut joint mid-thigh or mid-bicep and either create pegs or use screws to join the parts. But yes, really hoping that Spinmaster keeps the gimmicky bodies to a minimum and releases the next line with a normal body. The fact that they're cutting corners on the newest dollies is a little disturbing- that's not usually a good sign for the health of a toy line.

I really like some features on some of these gimmick dolls like their faceup (and/or their clothes and/or wigs) but I don't plan on getting either body unless it is on clearance or from a thrift store tho that is how I get most of my dolls. I don't like that they cut corners either. I know they are trying beat Monster High by price but it isn't because there are cheaper options that Monster High is doing good.

I still have a full set of all the posable Liv girls plus Jake but honestly I'm hardly playing with them since I got my MT's. I'm not buying new ones at all now except when discounted under $7 as extra posable doll bodies. 99% of the reason I got into Liv was posable bodies and wigs and with the passing of the basic doll articulation, the gimmicks, and a $20 price point for any decent articulated doll they make I'm not exactly rushing to buy more. I'm much more into the MT's which figures as they are still making Liv and not the MT's it seems. I might buy more wigs in the future for my MT's mostly but that will depend upon what they release. I can always use a good wig but at this point I have at least 20 Liv wigs in all kinds of colors plus several extra blond ones to dye so I'm not really needing anything new unless it's pretty special.

I got the one $10 red brights basic doll just to get that orange red wig and I might at some point get the deluxe mod Alexis if she's discounted on sale just to get her wig and that, but the rest of what came out recently I can pass on pretty much. The mod dolls are all cute but I can pass at $20. The basics I have the rest of the colors for the wigs and they don't have articulated bodies so I can skip those. I don't like the PJ dolls at all and again you have the $20 price point which is a real deal breaker for me anyway. I miss the regular colored wig releases actually. That's fun being able to go every few months and buy a new $5 wig or three. The long ones were okay but I skipped both in the end. Didn't need long blond or brown. Now if they had done that orange red wig in the same style as the brights but longer sold by itself I'd have liked that and bought a couple...
