Looking for decent posing medium tan dolls?

Postby Linainversetsg » Sun Sep 16, 2012 8:23 pm

Hi, I've been thinking about embodying an old old story character I had a long time ago but I need a medium tan doll. I like the skintone of the Cleo de nile dolls, but I don't like her face sculpt for what i want the doll for. If possible i'd like about that that skin tone but with a smaller head with more delicate features.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Even just a smaller head that will fit the cleo body and match would be helpful!

tan dolls are soooooooo hard to find - and harder to match "skintone" on.

In terms of commecially available in the US - there are the Monster girls, of course, and a couple of Bratz/Moxi girls who are "tan" as well - but they have the big heads. There was a tan girl in the Juku doll line...but I don't think those lasted long.

Expanding outside of the US there are tan dolls in the Takara Jenny line - some of them, like Julia, only come in tan, others like Miyuki come in regular and tan. The color doesn't match real well with anything available here - I know, I have some tan heads from that line that need bodies and I'm havingno luck :(.

Momoko also has a few tan options - but you are getting expensive at that point. Ironically though, the tan Momoko dolls tend to be easier to get and cheaper than the others - they dont' seem to be as popular in Japan.

Volks 1/6 dolls have tan options, but I'm not as familiar with them as the others.

Not a ton of help, but something to start with at least :)

I don't know if it is the right scale, but, when I need tan, I look for a Disney/Hunchback of Notre Dame Esmeralda body. She has Mattel's articulated Gymnast body from the 1990s, at least some of them do. They used a tan version for Teresa, too, but they are harder to find. "Workin' Out," "Flying Hero" & "Cool Blue [series]" Teresa come to mind. "Hula Hair" Barbie also had that body in tan. One of my arti-Teresas was an NBA figure, but I mostly find them as Caucasian or AA.

Cleo Monster is close to the 100 poses Fashionista Barbie and general Theresa, next darker would be the Artsy Fashionista, the SiS line aren't as jointed but come in at least 3 shades of Mattel brown. The Disney store should still have some Pocahontas dolls she has elbows and wrists but click legs, wouldn't be hard to repaint or reroot her.

Now would be the time to get Liv dolls before they're gone, they're rather nice for store brand.

Disney pocahontas is a nice color but maybe too light for what you're looking for.
