My first yarn wig

Postby fieraentara » Wed May 11, 2011 4:36 pm

So excited when I found some extra yarn. Finally had some time to work on this. So it's made with two colors, purple under and a blue, yellow, and white mix on the top. I'm pretty happy with it for a first try, at least now I know what to do different.

I'm also sure Emma will hate me for posting these as she hates this wig, but she was the only one who could wear it.

Looks good! I like the color combo. HOw did you make this? It looks like you spent a lot of time combing out the yarn. Most yarn wigs I see are still yarny looking.

I actually used 2 tutorials as a basis for this wig.

This one from DoA: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?407685-Experimental-Yarn-wig&highlight=yarn+wig

and one from a Flickr set, which I can't find for some reason :?

Anywho I ended up soaking the wig in a conditioner/ water combo for a bit and then towel dried it. Then working in small sections I ironed them flat and then brushed the heck out of it. I do plan on making some more, just need to go find yarn. :) I did find out this too. The purple yarn was very thing and loose (not sure what type) and when it was heated it turned more stringy, almost hair like. The other yarn was very thick and bushy and when it was done it was very soft and poofy almost like a mohair wig. If that makes sense. I may put a tutorial up when I get around to making another one. :)

So how did you do the top? I noticed you didn't take photos of that part.

Nice job! I think I am going to have to try it to get a blue wig in the color I want.

kittyasauras- The reason I didn't show the top is because it's one of the areas that needs work. It's very very thin and you can see the cap underneath.

I am going to be working on another wig this weekend, this one should look a lot better I'm sure. Just out of curiosity would anyone be interested in a tutorial? :)
