Do you own a Momoko?

Postby claws » Tue Sep 11, 2012 8:04 pm

Wow, I haven't been here in a while...so, Momoko dolls. I've been looking at them and really starting to like them. They're so cute and their outfits are awesome! But they're also really expensive. Are they worth the money? How are they for poseability? How do they compare to Obitsu?
Oh, and hello again! :D

I own a couple. They can not pose as well as a Obitsu. I usually buy just the head or nude ones as it's a lot cheaper that way. I just put the floating heads on a Obitsu bodies and this way I get the best of both worlds.

I have a whole HERD of Momoko LOL. Some have their original bodies and a couple have been transplanted onto Obitsu bodies - which, if you can do it, is totally worth it to get the poseability. Sometimes you can get just the Momoko head for a lot less than buying the entire doll! Somewhere I have a bald head rolling around waiting to be rerooted. She was a Sweet Poodle, and I hated the hair, but I got the head for just $25 years ago and plan on putting her on an obitsu body after giving her some wild hair. You can see my Momoko girls, in action, in these photostories:

The only one I bought brand new is Echo....I think she was something like...Fun Day Off or something like that. All the others I bought second hand or traded for (which is how I got Persephone, who is on an obitsu body).

I have several Momoko dolls and I also purchased them for the clothing and the head. To me they are worth it, but I don't like the bodies. Obitsu bodies are way better. As others have suggested, putting her on an Obitsu body is the way to go. If you are wanting a head then look for nude ones or auctions/sales that are just for the head. If you are wanting the clothing then you will have to pay the expense for the doll sadly and some are really high. What I suggest is to go to Etsy and do a search for 'Momoko Doll' and look through the clothing there. There are a few really good sellers on there that make clothing for Momoko and that have that Momoko style that I like. Some of them are pricey but not as high as having to be the complete doll for the clothing.

You can also buy the heads, nudes and complete dolls through Yahoo Auctions in japan if you use one of the proxy services, but with the exchange rate being in favor of the yen right now it really isn't a good deal the way it used to be :( That's how I got most of my Momokos.

Dolly Dolly Mook frequently has Momoko patterns and every volume of the Doll Coordinate Recipe pattern books has at least 1 Momoko pattern in it as well. There is also a book called Cheerio which is all about Momoko and has several patterns just for them as well - though it has a lot of japanese text information as well.

If anyone is ever interested I could post pictures of the covers and the ISBN numbers so you can try to locate them - although they are all japanese and sell for obscene prices on Ebay :(
