Does anyone on DS actually collect Barbies?

Postby MelodyT » Sun Dec 08, 2013 12:20 pm

I have seen lots of different dolls, mostly BJD's, and action figures. But have yet to come across anyone who actually collects Barbies. In fact, they don't seem to be all that popular here. Or am I wrong? I'm not talking about MH or Bratz or My Scene Barbies or Tonner dolls, etc. Just ordinary, everyday Barbie dolls. :?

I have quite a few, mostly they're old friends or their heads upgraded to jointed bodies. I think the last I bought not to mug or Frankendolly was a Steffie face Midge, and a brunette Ken.

I have a couple of Holiday Barbies still in their boxes (they are from when I was younger. My grandparents bought them for me), and a couple of really special Barbies that I keep separate from the horde from my childhood (I use them for props, mostly). Mainly Mulan, a rock star Barbie that dances that I haven't found a name for, and my Cut 'N Style Teresa in her lime green dress.
I've bought a couple over the past few months, mainly a Ariel doll to repaint and re-body 'cause she's my favorite Princess, but I've gotten away from Barbies. That, and Azone and Medicom are getting all my dollieh monies. :D

That's nice to know! Was beginning to feel really lonely ;) . I posted pics of some of mine, but no one seems too interested in Barbies. Have you posted any pics? Please tell me where to look if you have. :)

Question? (Not being funny here. I really am curious about this) If Ariel is your favourite princess, why to you want to repaint and re-body her? Then she won't be Ariel anymore. Or am I missing something? It seems a LOT of people are into be-heading their dolls, repainting them, etc., which I don't get. I buy a doll because she is beautiful to me and can't imagine taking her head off or anything like that. I understand if the doll needs restoration, but it seems this hobby is not about restoration as much as re-creating. Would be really nice to see pics of the Barbies you use as props. ;)

They are lovely! How many do you have, cos it sure seems like a LOT? :) How come you don't post them here on DS? And some of those outfits are gorgeous :) Thanks for sharing that. I really appreciate it ;)

I don't really know I haven't counted, I don't post them much because I never really think about it, and thank you I've had a lot of that stuff forever.

I guess in my doll hierarchy the Barbies are towards the bottom. The ones in the dollhouse and the customs/ball joints occupy more of my doll thoughts, the Barbies are just there.

I collect the Kens, and FR guys too. I do a little repainting/ face ups as well as rerooting. My reason is that I am trying to make the dolls into certain characters. I also rebody some of my dolls because I hate bodies that don't pose. This comes in handy when you are doing photostories.

I don't post my Barbies much, because most of them are what I call "shelf dolls". I love them, but they mostly stay put. I have the Princess of the World Collection, and quite a few others. Mostly they are not in a place I take pictures of. Some stay in their original outfits, and some don't. I have a few silkstone, some porcelain Barbies, and many others. I started with a 1962 Bubble Cut that I got for Christmas. I begged a lot for her! At the time Barbie wasn't a doll for really little children, and was geared more to the teen and pre-teen market. I really love OOAK (one of a kind) make-over dolls. As other people have said, I like to re-dress and make some of them into other characters. With just my ball-joint dolls I have well over 100 dolls that I photograph in stories. A lot of times it's the posability involved in them. Don't feel left out of DS, this forum was created because other forums would not let us post Barbie and other dolls. You and your dolls are very welcome here!

What attracts you with a doll? I initially look at their clothes and accessories, but the face is important. I have actually picked ones where the costume isn't as well made but the face says something to me.
