"Star doll"... I know only one maker (and I realized other "star" now):
http://www.star-puppen.com/

They did exhibit their prototype 25cm doll in Dollshow #34.

(Sorry, I don't have any information because I retired from dolly frontline. )

I did some quick research, yah. Mattel partnered with the "Digital Paper Doll" site StarDoll to create real dolls (which started out with digital paper dolls of movie, tv and singing stars you could "buy" outfits for, which is why the name is StarDoll). The dolls just started coming out and basically they are SUPPOSED to be 3-D versions of their digital paper dolls. They're only supposed to be really good looking mannequins. Which would be fine for $5-$10 a pop but for $20-$25 a pop it's pretty outrageous to stick them on a body that can't do anything but stand.

Way to go Mattel. Not.

They are marked down to $15 at Target stores now...still leaves you with a useless body, but makes buying them for the head and fashion much less painful.

I sorta figured "Oh cool, a mannequin." lol It's kinda sad that they have these beautiful faces and fashions but you can't do much with the doll itself. A glorified paperdoll, as it's been said. Maybe the company will get a hint and at the very least give them hip joints? though, I don't hold out the hope. I think they have a really nice, proportional body and it just seems wasted without some joints.

I saw these dolls with catshem at Target...they’re really rather pretty if you don’t want to do anything with them. :P I guess the only advantage is the discount price, really. Like KatyaR said, on clearance, it’s almost worth it for parts.

As I doubt they'll be making more scoop up the Stars you like and hybrid them to Barbies then find a kid you can give loose dolls made of rejected parts too. You've got to know a day care or a kid in the neighborhood who would be grateful to have any doll. I bagged up unwanted dolls, clothes, and stuff in an unwanted holder bag I had and totally made a neighbor girl's Xmas one year.

I actually don't but this is something I'll keep in mind. I have more headless bodies than I do floating heads but there's at least one head I have I could pop onto a body.

Wut? THREE points? You mean she can't sit down, even with just straight legs? That's just terrible. With all the heavily articulated dolls that are on the shelves not having the basic 5 points with some click legs is unforgiveable :/

Everytime we go to the store the shelves are full of them. I can't imagine the line being very popular because of this. I'm surprised they haven't gone on clearance just to get rid of them. The minute they go on clearance for a good price I'm buying one to steal the head.

It's such a shame that these dolls have such pretty heads but you can't do much with them :/

Makes me wonder how the Stardoll site is doing.
I used to play with it years ago, along with GaiaOnline. Haven't peaked at either in years.
