Can anyone help me with a 12'' male doll sizing issue?

Barbie, Jenny, Fashion Royalty, Obitsu and 1/6 resins - basically anything 10-12inch/21-27cm or in the neighborhood.

Haha, DollyKim you're making it sound as if I want a nude model hanging around my house!! XDD It doesn't have so much to do with the way it looks naked (though nice realism is always a good touch), it's more of a design problem. Honestly my main issue with the original body is the arms. The character is Larva from Kyuuketsuki Hime Miyu and he's not fully human, and his forearms are sort of clawlike and white and fade into normal human skintone around the elbow area. But instead of making a custom sculpt for his forearms, Tsukuda Hobby went the cheap route and gave handless arms what I've dubbed "oven mitts" that look like his hands. Also, this isn't Larva, his body type is a little more muscular, but this is Tsukuda Hobby's general 14'' body type:

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/swipern ... 11858.jpeg (As you can see they don't bend at the chest/back area, and are also for some reason covered by a rubber torso hiding nonexistent joints (so why not make it a plastic torso? ) irritating flaws but I can live with it.)

So, unless I want to bump up to a 16'' Tonner doll (which presents new problems because Larva's neck hole is THIN, we're talking Obitsu thin here, with not a lot of room for cutting out a larger hole), I figure I'm just going to do my best to make the original body a little more presentable by dremeling (look ma, a made up word!) the "oven mitts" down a bit and try my best to either blend them into the arms or bring the white all the way up to the elbow joint with apoxie so at least it doesn't stop in the middle like this:

These guys are pretty unique in the whole "body swap" department. Nobody can really swap comfortably with them, and no one else fits their peculiar shape.

Unless you have any idea how to disconnect the weird joints on these guys (and also this doll was made in 1997 so he's not exactly going to stand up to rough handling), that's not an option. Besides, the original sculptors for the hands did a pretty decent job, it's just that stopping point area that drives me batty.

Thanks maywong that honestly helps out a lot.

And hmmm, looking at pics of your actual doll, the only reasonably compatible body with that type of head would be an Obitsu Slim, the EB-c/EB-N volks boy bodies or a Monster High body. But those are incredibly short if you want a 14 inch body. Fashion Royalty boys would NOT fit that type of head because it's incredibly, incredibly thick neck. It's as wide as the head itself which is much overall larger than the Japanese scaled dolls.

Hence my extreme measures of buying an "imitation" dremel and plans to completely modify his lower arms. I picked up the actual doll to measure just the body to the neck peg (and yeah he's a tall slab of plastic for being labeled "1/6", around 13'' WITHOUT his head) and I noticed that for some reason Tsukuda Hobby made his neck peg EXTREMELY small, even smaller than the other Tsukuda Hobby doll I linked everyone to. It's almost nonexistant, which I think has something to do with his outfit (he has this ridiculous no-frills plastic "shelf" that sits over his shoulders and chest to make his cape sit more imposingly on his shoulders....I still want to know who decided he wears a black leotard beneath that cape. :? In canon all we know is he has a body. The cape doesn't ever come off, and in fact it's rare to even see a boot tip peeking out from under it. )

And like I said, these dolls are so old that the joints don't match today's standards and I could very well just end up breaking a pretty rare doll trying to "re-arm" him so to speak. His height is pretty integral to the character, it's a common theme that pops up in this particular mangaka's works, so moving him to a shorter body is definitely a no-go. Still, having the Tonner dolls and the Moxie teen bodies are a good jumping off point for other, more realistic customs.

I bought my dremel on amazon, for only $12 and it came with a bunch of parts. This is the one I have: http://www.amazon.com/Rotary-Tool-Kit-8 ... otary+tool it's awesome. I've had it for two years, and it's gotten a LOT of use, and still works great, so for the casual modder, the pricetag makes it an even better deal.

Hehe, I bought a similar one on Ebay except I got it with a cord because I don't want to deal with batteries and recharging. Mine is an off brand too and comes with a really good selection, including several different diamond burred bits of different shapes. :D
