Okay, so, I totally caved.

After all these months of waffling and saying I wouldn't get one...

I bought a Moxie Teenz.

Meet Miyae, who prefers to be called Miya.

I'd heard a lot about the shortcomings of the MT body, and now I can report on the pros and cons of the MT first hand.

Pros: Slightly larger than a Barbie et al. About as poseable as a Barbie Fashionista. Beautiful face. The construction of the body is a lot sturdier than I first believed. It shouldn't be hard to adapt Barbie fashion patterns to fit her. Shoes could be a problem, but some Ken shoes will fit her, as will some of his clothes (pants are too short to be pants and too long to be capris).

Cons: Not as poseable as an Obitsu or even a Liv doll. I hate the ring hole in her right hand. You can't even wash her wig (the instructions say it will ruin it).

I've started drafting patterns for her for jeans, a skirt, a T-shirt, and a few other things. Once I've worked them out I can scan and post them for anyone who wishes to make clothes for their MT.

I washed the wig that came with Dawn (tristen) in warm water and conditioned it so it wouldn't be so flyaway. It's fine, though YMMV.

I'd be interested in your patterns. I've seen the clothes packs they've put out and none of them interest me that much.

Miya is lovely!

Mary Kathryn: Thank you! I'm not too impressed with the clothes packs, either, although I may pick up a couple of accessory packs because of the difficulty in finding shoes for Miya.

So far I have rough patterns for a T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a skirt. I'll be working a bit more on them before posting pictures of completed items and then the patterns themselves.

I've heard that "washing" a wig with fabric softener will work without ruining it, since they're actually fiber, not hair.

The instructions that came with the doll state not to wash the wig in water or with soap or to apply any heat to it at all, "or the wig may be irreparably damaged".

Of course, this isn't an issue for Miya since her wig is now a red faux fur I made just for her. But still.

That heat warning is probably the give away, I bet the hair is made from something that melts are really low temperatures. Hit it with a hairdryer or a sunbeam and it'll probably shrivel and meld.

I don't think you need to use hot water, though. Do you have a practice wig? Cuz now I'm curious! :D

The warning wasn't specific about the temperature of the water. It just said not to wash the wig in water, period.

I might try it just to see what happens, since Miya's never wearing that wig again anyways.
