Well, I finally couldn't take it anymore---the Disney Store 11.5" Prince Phillip playline doll is just awful! I actually detested him--he doesn't look ANYTHING like Phillip from the film! So I relegated him to be the companion of a different Aurora than the 'main' Aurora of my Disney Princess collection.

This is him---look how AWFUL he is---he's just SO ugly and not anything at all like Phillip:

Now, I was happy enough with the 1990s Disney Store Phillip but his head is so thin and small---he looked a bit out of place next to the other Princes:

So, the past week, I decided to try somehow, to make the newer Disney Store Phillip look decent. When I started, I thought, 'No way I can make him even halfway decent---he's just so ugly!' but I wanted to give it a try.

The first thing I knew I needed to do was find him a slimmer, taller body. The DS prince bodies are so....yech. They're short, squat and just non-princely! Especially for the slender looking guys like Phillip, Hans, Eugene, etc.

I had a few Fashionista Model Muse Ken bodies that are gorgeous---non poseable, but gorgeous and I thought I'd go for it with Phillip. Nothing to lose, right? He can ONLY improve, albeit ever so slightly because his sculpt is just atrocious and nothing can really be done to improve it!

So, I modified the neck on both the body and the head, resculpted his hair shape, and then went to to work wiping Phillip's ugly faceup and halfheartedly attempting a more accurate look.

Well, to my surprise, he didn't come out that badly! He is a HUGE improvement in my opinion, and while still not 'perfect' (the main problem is that Disney sculpted him with an open mouth. ^^;; That's mostly what's putting him off for me---the mouth is just so.....clownish. But I tried to tone down the colors on it, making it a bit more muted and masculine colored. It's okay but I really wish he had a closed mouth!) he is now decent enough to join the lineup of my 1/6 Disney Prince/Princess collection! YAY!!!

He was actually my 'test' dummy to see how these heads would look on the Fashionista bodies and he came out so well (proportion wise and height wise) that I promptly did the same to my Eugene/Flynn and today, I'm working on my precious Hans! I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO scared to cut up his head, since he's "PERFECT" but I really want him on a more suitable body, so I just closed my eyes, shut down my doubts and cut his head off! :laughs:

Anyway, on to the photos! What do you all think? Is Phillip more 'Phillip-like' now? I think so! He was really a nice surprise to me that he came out well enough---I honestly and truly doubted it! Let me know what you think? (If you think he's still awful, feel free to say so! I mean, I thought he was hideous before, and I still don't think he's terrific, so... ^^)

He looks quite handsome! I don't remember what prince Philip is supposed to look like, but in general this is definitely an improvement. Much more realistic and less clowny than his original face.

I also don't watch Disney enough to know what he's supposed to look like, but will agree he looks a lot better than before!

I noticed you said one problem you still have is the open mouth (aka what I call Barbie The Junkie grin, because more than half the time it makes 'em look stoned). Now, you may not want to try it, because it requires a pretty steady hand, an exacto-knife, and superglue... but there are ways to 'de-grin' a doll...

That is a big improvement. I had a few of that second prince doll and put some of my Ken heads on that body.
