So I desperately want to make a 1/6th scale dollhouse for my boys (and girl). I wanted to do a kit but the only kits I can find in that size are not great. So I shall attempt to put one together on my own from plywood and sweat.

Has anyone else ever done this? Or did you buy a kit? I would love to see pictures of your 1/6th dolliehs in whatever home they have made themselves.

Right now, my Playscale Theater group lives in a couple of bookcases. Sadly I have not yet done this due to lack of space, so I'll just lurk and watch... because in a few years, when I have the Bunker to move into, I am plotting to take up one whole wall or at least a good bit of one with a 1/6 scale Georgian townhouse... The plan might never come to anything, but for now it's definitely a wishlisty-thing for then.

Mkay, recently observed the building of one of those fancy dollhouse kits and the price, time, necessary supplies, and so on didn't appear to equal much fun. The pieces in the kit weren't even cut right.

On the good side there are good 1/6 houses to be found. The Kid Craft and other similar brands they sell at Toys R Us and online do great. Check Sears and Finger Hut too. The walls are washable mason board which could be painted. I have two of the same house but with slightly different decor, one was found at a thrift shop and the other on Craig's List.

It's the same house, the dolls are 1/6, and the stuff comes from all over.

As for making stuff get some good how too books and some polymer clay if the kids are old enough not to eat it. Angie Scar has some terrific miniature food books.

This wonderful lady is constantly making videos on YouTube showing you how to make different dollhouse rooms, furniture, food, clothing, accessories, custom dolls, etc., and it's really easy and made out of stuff you might already have, can print-out, or can get from the craft store. She has sooooooooooooo much great stuff, it's crazy, you just need to see for yourself. Watch the videos and be amazed~ (O,O) <3

1/6 doesn't seem to be a very popular scale for dollhouses. I think most people who want to give their 1/6 dolls a living space just use a bookshelf. Then of course there are people who build amazing dioramas, but I'm not sure that's what you were looking for? Anyway, here's a couple of people with amazing building skills:

Well, there's always the upscale "Dream House" (based on the early 1960s Barbie Dream House) that I made for Cherry and Johnny.

It's set up in our bedroom, right by my side of the bed, and it's only one room but it has all the necessities, including a futon that converts into a bed and a real wicker table and chair set I bought 239084712039847 years ago.

Lovely!

Did anyone else ever read Rumer Godden's Miss Flower and Miss Happiness? And Little Plum? I always wanted to build a Japanese dollhouse like Nora's. :D I really like the bookcase/bookshelf idea. And I think roomboxes could be dangerously fun. ^_^

It's a shelf in progress to be a doll house. ^.^ The first pic has the clear vinyl cover down. It helps keep cats and dust off the shelf. I've having trouble finding patterns I like in the shelf liner to use as wallpaper, so I might paint the shelves.
