Birthday/Mother's Day Picnic [IMGS GALORE]

Okay, so Cherry's birthday was this weekend (I got her 6 years ago on the 7th of May, or thereabouts), and today was such a nice day my grrlkrewe and I (said grrlkrewe consisting of myself, my beloved, and my best friend Kristyn) decided to go on a picnic. I took Cherry along, and we went to a park down on Mobile Bay that Kristyn and I used to frequent when we were younger, and to which I introduced Barb when she first moved down here to be with me.

It was Riri's first visit there. She loved it.

Image
She's wearing some of the new Barbie separates I bought for her birthday (I bought one of everything I could find in WalMart, almost, at least the ones I liked). I love the rose-print jeans.

Image
The water here is kind of muddy because it's a launch for small boats and the channel is kind of shallow. You can see the boats in the background.

Image
Riri got kind of nervous around the water. I think she was afraid I'd drop her, although she is of course entirely too polite to actually suggest I'd be so clumsy.

Image
When I was a kid, we had this HUGE cedar in our front yard. It had branches thick enough to climb and I'd often go sit in it. These were kind of flimsy (and my tree-climbing days are far behind me), but Riri managed just fine.

Image
We also had a big oak tree in our side yard (this is Lower Alabama, there's no shortage of trees, especially oaks and pines), and I used to set up house with my dolls amongst the gnarled, shaped roots. Even now I kind of have a thing for taking pictures of a doll sitting or posing amongst the burls of oak roots.

Image
See above. Actually, as a child, I never had any dolls that posed this well. The one who came closest was my platinum-curled Uneeda Dollikin, who could wear Barbie clothes but not the shoes. I never could find shoes for that chiquita except the ones she came with (which were fugly).

Image
Having worked up an appetite, we settled down to our meal. I made this food out of salt dough, well-sealed. Yes, even the bottle of AriZona Green Tea! I've worked with both salt dough and polymer clay, and I just like salt dough for play food because it looks better to me, and, well, it's cheaper and easier to cure (you just let it air dry, though in a humid climate like mine it can take a while and sometimes needs a little help).

Image
Of course, it's not a proper picnic without dessert. I made Riri a waffle cone with mint chocolate chip ice cream (her fave).

Image
I know I've almost made everyone here deaf singing the praises of the Made to Move body, and I really do think it's that good...but something has to be said for the Moxie Teenz face mold, too. I love love love this particular pic (coming soon to an avatar near you). I love that coy-yet-sweet expression on her face!

Image
My dolls are the only "children" I have (well, besides my cat), but Cherry and I hope all you real moms out there are having a great Mother's Day.

Lovely pictures, and a lovely day at the park too. Looks beautiful there. Yesterday and today are the nicest days we've had all week. Rain, rain, rain.

Happy mother's day to you and everyone else as well!

Seems like you have much fun.

Dolls do get nervous around water, one of mine fell into a shallow ornamental pool...

I know, right? Back when our neighbors had that ornamental birdbath, I had this thing about taking Riri's picture while sitting on it, and I think the risk was part of the thrill (for me, anyway):

Image

In fact, the only time Riri felt remotely safe around that thing was the year it snowed* and it froze solid, and even then she had to bring her hubby along:

Johnny was...not impressed. In fact, it was the only time I ever got him anywhere near that birdbath. The guy who lights himself on fire on a regular basis has a serious issue with being dunked in the water. Go fig.

Sadly, the birdbath is gone. Sadly for me; I'm sure the krewe, especially Cherry, are glad it's no longer around for me to menace them with. :B

*It snows roughly once a decade here in Mobile. The town, to put it mildly, goes bugnuts. Hurricanes, tornadoes, daily thunderstorms we can handle. Frozen white stuff shuts the whole city down.

I love the salt dough food! I've been compiling a long list of Etsy shops that sell 1/6 scale food... I plan to sculpt some jewelry, genie lamps and masks for my dolls, but good looking food is out of my reach. ^^'

Is Johnny a Liv Jake? I've been stalking one on Ebay ever since I saw one while doing head research last week. I need more boys.

Yes, Kadyssa, Johnny is indeed a Liv Jake. I removed his factory hair and found out that he was evidently originally intended to be wigged as well (he has sculpted hair details on his head). I filled in the holes and gave him a blond wig. He currently has two. He can also wear all of Cherry's wigs, although he usually sticks to his "default" hair.
