Disney Designer Fairytale Eugene x Rapunzel OOAK Set

For my sister’s birthday in August, I made her a custom Rapunzel & Eugene 11″ Designer Doll set. I had originally passed up the original Rapunzel/Flynn designer set a few years ago, thinking we didn’t need them since we preferred Rapunzel’s hair short and brunette, as at the end of the film. Plus, Eugene looked ‘regular’ to me (I couldn’t see him well in photos from the way he was positioned in the case and didn’t realize his head sculpt/hair was ‘designer’ style!.) so I really didn’t want/need them.
Then when the 2nd wave came out, with Aurora & Phillip–I felt badly because while Sleeping Beauty and Aurora/Phillip were my favs, my sister’s favorite was ‘Tangled’ (Rapunzel & Eugene). By this time, (2014), the original set was about $350 and she didn’t want to spend so much on a doll set. (I’m more the doll enthusiast. She likes them, but not like I love dolls! ^.~)
Then, the 2 Helsa sets and the Kristanna set came out and we, now very much adoring Frozen, too, purchased them. The Helsa 2 sets for me; and Kristanna for my sis.
Now, I really felt bad that I had my two faves (Hans/Elsa & Phillip/Aurora) but my sister had only her one fav (Kristanna) but not her other (Eupunzel). So, I kept checking on eBay but eventually, they got even higher until this year, they’re $500 - $600. I knew my sis would NEVER pay that much for a set.
I then realized, I could pretty easily make a custom set from the newest ‘Rapunzel/Mother Gothel’ set and the new Classic Flynn, which uses the Designer head!! I got a great deal on eBay (after reselling Gothel, I ended up paying just $60!) and bought a Mattel 1st Edition Flynn for his outfit, which is actually even nicer than the Disney Store one–even the Designer version!! It’s pleather and metal rivets/buckles and the satchel and belt are more than perfect! So I took the DS Designer style Flynn head, repainted it so he’s looking at Rapunzel (which I prefer since that’s how it looks like in the artwork of the designer Rapunzel x Flynn), with a quirky brow and smirk then refitted it onto a more poseable jointed doll body, then posed him in the case with Rapunzel.
I took off Gothel’s name from the brass? nameplate and repainted it with ‘Eugene’. After that, I decorated the box with the designer Eupunzel pics to make it more authentic (and not have Gothel on the box! :laughs:)
Anyway, my sis was over the moon when she saw it and she actually thought it was the real set at first! Remember I said she’s not that much into the dolls? So she didn’t know exactly what the real set looked like really, and berated me that I spent way too much! :laughs: Then I told her to look closely and she saw then it was a customized handmade set—which she was super relieved and really loves better, because she prefers the new Rapunzel dress to the other one and she likes Eugene’s face/side gazing at Rapunzel better, too than just staring straight ahead. Plus, she really LOVES the price! :laughs:
Well, she put it side by side with her Kristanna set and tells me every day how much she loves the dolls! So I’m really glad I found a way to make a Eupunzel set for her!! Yay for the Rapunzel x Gothel set!! :laughs:
So, what do you think? I think it came out really nice and it really made my sister happy! Hope you like it too!
