90s Barbie skin matches?

Postby Arkinlae » Mon Oct 03, 2016 1:54 pm

So I recently discovered that back in the day a Power Ranger Kimberly fashion doll existed :O so I'm now inspired to try and make my own seeing as I had an old Angel Princess Barbie (one of my only ones left from early childhood) I was going to use for face up practice she'd be perfect (I like the idea of paying homage to the era too).

Only thing is the skintone of course she'd have to be on a pose-able body, I did toy with the idea of going full 90s era doll and keeping her on her twist and turn, but having a Power Ranger doll that couldn't pull any fighting poses just didn't feel right at all.

At the moment I've tried her on a Barbie Made to Move seeing as she was spare (I'd foolishly assumed Barbie was the lightest skintone for the body swap I wanted) and it works, okay but there's still the tinge of orange from whatever kind of tan those Barbies were supposed to have.

Are there better alternatives as far as skin matching goes or would you say this is passable? She surprisingly looks better than I thought she might in the white light from the photo booth (though I think its washed her out a bit) having her out in normal light today sometimes her head looked like a pumpkin compared to her body. It seems an insignificant niggle but I dont want it sticking out like a sore thumb in any photo I take :/

I did consider a fleshtone Obitsu as I hear they're quite orangey but compared to the MTM I don't think I'd want to downgrade on the articulation, however after seeing this thread on OneSixthWarriors http://www.onesixthwarriors.com/forum/s ... klian.html I was considering swapping the hands and feet for Obitsu anyway (I cannot stand the hands and I can't get her to stand up on her feet at all :/ )

Obitsu isn't a downgrade on articulation, it's a whole other world, and if you get one with magnets in the feet it can use anything metal as a stand. There's a few Barbitsu hybrids around here.

I have some Barbie heads form the late 90s on the 100 poses Barbie dolls from five years or so back. They're a little more tan but still not that Superstar orange. The feet are high heeled and there's no ankles though. Gymnast and Ballerina bodies are another option.

I have an Obitsu in white and I feel the MTM can pull off a lot more poses, though it wouldnt be the worst choice as I like the magnet feet and the changeable hands. I wouldn't know what size to get though as I think if the body looks to mature then the head might look risking to old she dropped a good few years in age just from moving her from her twist and turn over to the MTM

Do you know if there's any risk of neck melt with the soft bodies like with Pullips or because Barbies are squishy heads it doesn't matter? I only have expirience with the hard body (I wanted to avoid the drama of neck melt)

Didn't know that about MTM, I haven't got my hands on one yet.

The only melt I've ever had is Power Team Elite shoes on their bodies, the shoes felt a bit "wet" if you know what I mean. I've never heard of a Barbie head causing melt.
