I'm not sure if this thread is in the right section. I'd like to post random photos of my 1/6 dolls here. They aren't photostories, so I didn't want to put them there. If I'm posting this in the wrong place, please feel free to delete this, mods!

What a gore-geous version of Rochelle!

I don't think I'm familiar with the "Getting Ghostly" series. Were they "ghost" versions of the regular characters?

Thank you!

MH Haunted came with two sub-lines - Haunted - Student Spirits (deluxe dolls), those would be Vandala, River, Kiyomi and Porter; and Haunted - Getting Ghostly (slimbox dolls), with Draculaura, Clawdeen, Spectra and Twyla. Rochelle (whose distribution scheme was so odd - she never became widely available in the US, but in Australia, there were more Haunted Rochelles than people) was an odd one - she's sometimes listed as Getting Ghostly, because she fits into that line, and sometimes as Student Spirits, because she isn't slimbox, but deluxe edition.

The movie is about Spectra getting stuck in a ghost school and ghouls and new ghost friends are trying to help her out. In order to go to the ghost world, ghouls have to ghost-ify themselves using boogeyman sand, that's where their ghost appearances come from. Getting Ghostly dolls are made of the same slightly translucent plastic the main Haunted dolls are, and Spectra is very different from her other releases, she doesn't have her usual clear plastic fading-away limbs, instead, she's all milky, same as reboot character Ari Hauntington. I have Rochelle and Twyla and all the girls from the Student Spirits line, I also wanted Spectra, but so far haven't find her for a decent price. If you're interested in these, it's also worth noting that the US-distributed and international versions of Spectra differ, international one has brighter make-up, the US one is quite toned down.

Thank you for the detailed information! You really know your stuff when it comes to Monster High!

I read online that Rochelle was a Walmart Exclusive, at least here in the States, but I do not recall ever seeing her. Interesting that she was widely distributed in Australia, where many MH figures were in short supply.

You're welcome!

Mattel did a lot of similar stunts with peculiar distribution, they also often didn't predict well which doll from specific line will be most popular, so case assortments were full of shelf sitters, while the popular ones were nowhere to be seen (that's what happened to Isi, for example).

Wow! Ghostly Twyla is quite a cutie, too!

I do have Vandala from the "Haunted" line. I purchased mine online, but she did show up in stores.

I would have expected Isi to be more popular than she was, because she is definitely one of the prettiest MH releases. But she was quite common on store shelves, so it was probably, as you say, a matter of over-estimating the demand. Also, by the time she was released, interest in Monster High seemed to be on the wane. Also, her story-identity was a bit of a stretch. The characters based on "real" or "classic" monsters seemed to do better than the more fantasy-type figures. By the time Isi was released, Mattel was running out of monsters!

Interesting! You see, in EU, Isi was impossible to find (I only ever saw one - and I snatched her immediately), but we were knee-deep in unwanted Kjerstis...

Thank you so much, hun!

Extremely 'artistic' portrait of MH Gloom and Bloom Catrine Demew, who has terribly wonky eyes, so I keep her bangs like that to cover it...

That's quite interesting that Isi was so difficult to find where you live! She was very common here; in fact, Isi was the last of the original style characters to linger on the shelves, mixed in with the reboots.

Considering the popularity of cats in general, and with the "cat girl" motif in anime and manga, I expected the Monster High cat characters, starting with the Werecat Twins and Toralei, to be insanely popular. Toralei was initially in high demand and hard to find, but the online reaction to the follow-up cat characters did not seem to be as enthusiastic as I would have expected. Catrine and Catty seemed to be in adequate supply and did not sell out quickly, with Catty continuing to show up sporadically well after her initial release.

Your Spectra portrait is haunting and etherial, as is appropriate, with an effectively conveyed "floating" effect.
