Okies, so I've been going batty trying to find a repro one of this doll for awhile. Curses me being a year too late and not getting one. Lol, so yeah, one of my semi local friends decided to help me get my hands on this Barbie from Ebay and surprise, surprise, I actually find one in the price range I actually find reasonable IN THE BOX, WOO. So a week of fretting later it arrives on my friend's doorstep, and they happen tpo live 2 hours away from me. Let's just say it took a lot of will power to actually stop from ripping the doll out on the train home.

Anywho, I stuck Malibu head onto a Fashionista Artsy body with the torso joint and swivel knees and it matches perfectly. Ha ha, so I stuck two rare-ish dolls into this super rare doll? I dunno, she's play to play with though...

Also the pile of repro boxes are building... They're like colourless little morbid coffins with stiff, headless bodies in them wearing default outfits.

I would have stuck her in the yellow outfit but it was see through which I thought was a bit risqué for the 70's... I need to make her a petticoat for it...

Image
She has Neil Patrick Harris' forehead... seriously.

Image
Also I think the lip paint looks horrible but I kinda wanna leave it default otherwise I might regret wiping it like I did with Belinda's.

Image
The colour match is fantastic. I'm kinda disappoint that the original body didn't have hilarious tanlines. Did the 70's mean having tanlines was saaaaaaaaaaah hawt?

Image
Woo.

I love her eyes though.

Holy carp, three decades and they thought blue eye shadow was hot? D: And only a third of my vintage guys are actually dudes D8

Image
I must admit, my favourite era is the Twist 'N Turn era...

You could put heads you don't like on the bodies, make new clothes and accessories for them, then leave them in the boxes like pieces of art work.

I think, when I was little, I had a Malibu Skipper? Well, I forget what her official title was, but she had dark tanned skin, bleach-blonde hair, and guess what? She had tan lines! lol

I was around 4 or 5 when I got her, which would have made it around 1980 or '81. The other two Barbies I played with had belonged to my mom when she was little. Barbie had a mohair ponytail and molded plastic eyelashes, and her original zebra-striped bathing suit. The other one was a Midge, and she had stiff dark curly hair and looked a lot like my mom. lol

I think Mom still has them, somewhere, come to think of it.

The entire cast of Jersey Shore envies Malibu Barbie's wicked tan right now. XD

I had a Babs with tan lines - I think she was called Sun Lovin' Malibu Barbie. She had the superstar head. My first Barbie was the Malibu that you have - the repro from last year. What is that head mold called...Stacey? Anyway, mine was a baggie ( she came in a plastic bag ) and my mom got her from Sears.

Dolly Kim, but that requires them looking nice. I prefer to creep out people :P

Stormlight, I knew I wasn't crazy knowing that Barbie encouraged tacky tan lines and skin cancer!

I kinda envy those with a Midge, most cuz I have a softspot for Barbie's oldest, yet forgotten best friend.

Claws, darnit, I now imagine Malibu singing to the tune of Tik Tok "Let's score on the 'Shore, Ouch my hair's stuck in the door. Be as tan as I can, so I can steal your man!"

Mary Kathryn, I knew Mattel had to sneak in a creepy detail like tanlines sometime before Barbie cleaned up her act... I think the head was from Barbie's TnT days where Malibu Barbie was called Stacey, Barbie's british friend.

Kinda depressing my childhood dolls were like the later 90's dolls...
