MH dolls and their bodies

How does the general public here feel about the Monster High dolls and they bodies. I mean in the technical sense, not nody image and how it affects our children. I have the Gloom Beach Cleo doll (she was cheap and had less accessories that I didn't have to worry about storing) and I do love her, she's very pretty and I have a weak spot for anything Egyptian (surprised I haven't filled the house with it) but I find that their torso's with their arched backs creates a problem for me.

I make doll wings and had someone ask me if I made wings for MH dolls. I didn't own one then so I didn't really know how mine would work on them, so I bought Cleo off Amazon and go to work. Obviously, the wings had to be down scaled, and I need to lighten the load. She's very loose and doesn't hold up to the weight of the wings unless in her stand, as well as Obitsu's. And then I rn into the problem of her back arching to the extreme. My typical wing harness does not work on her (I use an elastic band across the chest and then ribbon at the top to lift the wings that criss-crosses down and around the torso.)

I've tried to figure it out, then gave up to just focus on some actual wing production. Curious to know if anyone may have a solution for me or if you have also run into some design problems with them. :)

You're right, they don't stand well and are somewhat loose. I have motion tests on my Mattel page http://dolfielittles.com/mat.html give it a week to load :P I'll be fixing that.

Outside of paper, felt or craft foam I can't see wings or anything with any weight working on them. Unless you attach the wings to a stand, maybe make something like swallow tails that acts like a stand but is part of the wings?

I just fixed my problem as soon as I posted this.

The backing I was using needed to be made smaller, and all I really had to do was just use longer feathers. The harness has to wrap around the body more than the BJD wings I make, but this works. Woo!

I like the MH bodies, male and female, though I wish they'd sit better. My boys, DOTD Clawdeen with short hair and hard heels, and bald Lagoona stand like a champs. Honestly, I think the weight of the hair is the biggest issue.

I like your wings, I'm glad you got them to work! I put some wings on my Draculaura, but I just stole them from a Disney fairy doll and they are quite heavy. They had a plug that went into the fairy's body, which helped to straighten out the arched back issue. I hot glued them on to make a bigger base, then once that peeled off I just superglued that to her back and they've stuck. No free-standing for her, though. Image

I'm repainting a few of them myself as faeries. I have four in the works one I just finished the faceup on. Going to try to make my own wings but I'm not sure how its going to work out yet. I love your girls look Glace. I'd really like to see more pics! She doesn't have the fangs... is that gloom beach? I thought they all had them! that would be great if she didn't.

I have Ghoulia and GB Frankie. I didn't notice much of an ARCH and they're the same width as Winx Club so I've got plenty of clothes that fit. I really like the fact their a lot like Obitsu's.

That face up looks like it's coming along great. I'm very envious.
Are all versions of the dolls made the same? Sometimes I wonder if it's just my GB Cleo with this arch. Buh. I don't know. I'm just glad I fixed my problem ._.

thisstrangeforest - Thanks! I actually don't have any other pics at the the moment, otherwise I'd share them. She's an original Draculaura with a Gloom beach hand. They do all have fangs, but they're painted on, so I wiped them off with the rest of the face. If you don't like the fangs you could just wipe the lips and/or repaint them.

catshem - If that was directed at me, thank you. => You mean the back arch? All of the girls have the same body mold, with the exception of Lagoona's arms and legs and their individual hands. Although, apparently they're showing an adult at SDCC right now and she looks taller, so she probably has a different mold.

Yes it was :3
I figured they'd all be the same body type, i must be the only person with an issue with the back arching. ^_^;
