The Impulse Buy - DiM Eileen Vinyl BJD - New pics pg 2

So for a while I've been wondering how to reshell one of my characters, Addy. Previously he was a 15cm Bobobie Lucky, but that was really the wrong scale - he's from the same storyline as my MSDs Robin and Paul (and several more to come), and he should only be a little smaller than Paul, who's a CH Little Junior - technically not a MSD since he's only 35cm. But most yo-sds are 26 cm or so...that still seemed too small. Paul's supposed to be around 5'4" and Addy's around 4'11". So around 30cm would be good - but that's a really hard size to find.

I was browsing DDE and noticed the measurements of the Doll in Mind Eileen, their only vinyl BJD so far. She's 29cm. I have a DiM Arno and am very happy with the sculpt, and this little girl was only $80 for a fullset. But...she is a girl...Addy's a boy. But upon looking at the body, I saw it was based on the DiM "Sweet" body, which is "sexless." So...Addy will have to deal with the shame of having no boy parts, but at least he won't have girl ones. The doll was in stock, so I said "Heck, why not" and bought her. S/he arrived today, just two days later. Pictures were taken! (I still can't believe the difference a DSLR makes. Fffff I love my new camera.)

Image

Cute box.

Image

She actually comes all dressed and wigged, but that didn't last long. I had to see what the body was like. It's cute. The bellybutton is weird, and the breasts are a bit pointy. I'm going to see if I can sand those down a bit. In the company photos the hands look to be a different colour from the body, but none of that's going on here. The vinyl's a nice uniform colour and pretty smooth, though there are seam lines here and there, mostly in the joints.

Image

Rear view. The headcap is magnetic, nice and simple. She's pretty well balanced, it doesn't take much work to get her to stand.

Image

The posing is nothing spectacular, but it's not bad either. I AM impressed with the torso movement - she sits up straight very easily and can slouch forward as well.

Image

Head movement is also very good.

Image

The fullset items are really impressive. Some companies would charge $80 for the clothes, wig and eyes alone. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was the shoes - they were just plastic slip on mary janes, like barbie shoes. I won't be using the wig, but it's very cute. I replaced it with a Monique Gold wig I also got in this shipment. It's a 5/6, but I had to stretch it a lot to get it on. A 6/7 would probably work just as well.

Image

CUUUTE. Sorry, Addy, I promise your boy clothes are on the way.

Image

It has KITTY EARS. And a little bell.

Image

Inside the headcap. Note the sculpted eye wells. On one hand this is nice since you don't have to worry about putty, and positioning is easy. But on the other hand, you're pretty much stuck using 14mm perfectly round eyes only.

Image

Size comparison with Paul. Paul's supposed to be 16 and a bit runty, Addy's supposed to be a normally sized 13 year old. Seems about right. The Bbb I had was so tiny I ended up making him a 6 year old version of the character, but the warped timeline bugged me.

So since Addy's a boy, what will I do with these adorable but unquestionably girly clothes? HMMM...DO I HAVE A CHARACTER WHO, I DUNNO, SOMETIMES CROSS-DRESSES FOR HIS BOYFRIEND OR ANYTHING?

Image

FFFFF~ THIS IS TOO FRICKING CUTE

Image

SRSLY, D'AWWW

*ahem.*

Thanks for looking, hope it was informative for anyone considering one of these cuties! I'd definitely recommend! Oh, and the faceup removes easily - I only took off the blushing and the lip colour, and will be blushing more lightly and adding freckles. MSC takes well to the vinyl also. I'll post new pics of the face when I'm done.

I would say be careful with sanding her since she is vinyl. I'm not sure how well the material takes to sanding. Her fullset is super cute and i think she works well as a boy.

What mold/brand/size is the doll with the black wig?

I didn't even know DIM made vinyl dolls. xD haha I'm out of the loop. They look really good, the belly button weirds me out though..

They developed Eileen in 2010 I think and she is their first and only vinyl. I think this was a test to see how well should would sell. I'm not sure how popular she is. DIM doll quality is very good and I quite like their aesthetics. My first BJD was a DIM doll and i got her right around the time Eileen came out lol. I stalked the company webpage for a long time before I decided to get a doll .

That's my baby, Paul...he's a Custom House Little Junior Mars. He's about 35 cm. : )

Yeah, I'm wary of trying to sand the vinyl, but I have some very fine grit I can start out with to see if it's possible. If not, oh well, freaky bellybutton will usually be hidden anyway. ;)

GOod luck!

Can you do a review on the vinyl? I'm not sure if you have obitsus, but if you do how does the vinyl compare?

Parabox has tutorials on customizing vinyl, and yes you can sand it. If you want to use larger eyes, you can slit the eyewells. Check out the Obitsu customizing information. CUte doll!

Aww, cute! Considering her fullset price is about $80, I wonder how much she'll cost as a non-fullset...

I don't believe they offer her as a non-fullset, unfortunately.

I only have an obitsu 27cm slim male. In contrast to that - it's softer vinyl, closer to what Obitsu uses for the heads and hands in feel but definitely not that flexible. The fingers will flex a tiny bit, but overall she's very solid. The Obitsu body I have is shiny, and the DiM is not, except for a few spots where the texture is uneven. The thickness of the vinyl is comparable to a resin BJD.
