New Livs

I have spotted some new Livs at Target. Unfortunately for their basic dolls they have switched to a body similar to their Victorious dolls, with unarticulated arms. I found some pics of the new dolls in this photostream on flickr:

The Liv For Color dolls are only $11 which is actually pretty good for a wig and some clothes (and possibly a head if Liv heads appeal to you).

HATE unjointed arms and legs! I really hope it's just for that line. :(

I saw them yesterday. Got the red one. I think it looks more than a bit like the hair on Modern Circle Director Barbie only it's 5-6 sized. I have to grab another one of those dolls just to have 2 of these. I like the color a lot. FYI, the red wig is more an orange red and it's nice, but it's a bit stiff. It is that body, and it's cheap. The clothes are a bit iffy and so are the wigs. Color's great but the quality on these dolls is really slipping a bit, lack of articulation aside. The pink and purple ones are no big deal, nothing new there, but I do like the light blue one and maybe I'll get her just for that.

Shoes are okay if boring. I really wish they'd have done a lime green doll instead of two pinks. There's another wig pack coming out. Pics on the back of the book don't match any of the new ones I got a month or so ago. I saw the sleepover dolls too but I wasn't too impressed. I like the clothes but the rest no, and for $20 I won't be going there. The whole reason I buy Liv is to get articulated dolls. The less articulation the less I am interested. I still hope the line lasts mainly because I like to use the wigs on my 16" girls but that's about it lately.

It's pretty obvious Liv is dying especially when dolls that retailed for $25 are in bargain stores for $6 here in Australia and NONE of the newer lines have turned up....

the Sleepover Party line seems to still be articulated, despite the gimmick the arms still have elbow and wrist joints. I think it is similar to how an action figure can have "kung fu action" but still pose like normal. Plus they have eyelashes because they have sleep eyes.

I really want that purple Gaga wig when it comes out.

I like that Spinmaster is at least trying new things to keep Liv alive unlike a certain other toy company that often just cancels lines if they aren't doing good. *coughMGAcough*

Damn, the Twist and Dance was bad enough, but DO NOT TAKE AWAY ARTICULATION when that was the main selling point of the line for me! (Well, that, and the eyes and wigs.) I will HURT SOMEONE at Spin Master if they ruin the line like that!

Not counting any exclusives, they only took away articulation on their cheaper basic line. The Target exclusive "Brights" are just basic dolls in overpriced packaging like many Target exclusives. I think they removed the arm articulation so they could have some "cheapy" dolls. I am guessing it costs more money to make them more articulated since I don't remember Liv dolls ever being $11 if they weren't on sale or clearance. The only other ways they could make a cheaper line would be to remove another feature like replacing the inset eyes with painted eyes and the wigs with rooted hair but then they would be just like the Fashionistas.

Tho I do wish they had another set coming out with articulated arms but less features than the Sleepover ones priced somewhere between what the Liv For Color and the Sleepover ones cost.

The Liv dolls need cheapy dolls to compete to be honest. A lot of parents just won't shell out 20 for a doll let alone 25. Plus there's the slightly younger set that Articulation means nothing.
