Articulated Disney Princes?

Postby magkelly » Mon Jan 09, 2012 10:44 pm

A while back someone gave me a rather muscle bound, very light beige 12" male doll. A fully articulated body that had the head of a Disney Prince. Supposedly it was the original head. He looked like one, toothy smile, very Disney anime looking face with brunette molded hair. It did match skin-wise. Sorry, I don't have the head anymore to show you.

Arms, hands, ankles, knees, everything was articulated in a way that I've never seen with another male Barbie doll, let alone a Disney prince. Plus he looks like he's a weight lifter or something, really built compared to any male doll of his size. He definitely wasn't an action figure. Regular hands. Not the "I've always got a weapon in my hands." type that you see on action figures.

I'm going to pull him out tomorrow, take a pic, but have any of you ever run across an ultra articulated Disney Prince doll that looks more than a bit like a body builder? I'm going to use this doll eventually to articulate a Ken doll of some sort but I'm just wondering if this was a special series of Disney Princes maybe and if there are more out there? I wouldn't mind a few more of this body. It looks pretty darned cool and I like the way it moves. I may end up using it for one of the new Basics. Old Ken heads don't seem to work but I have a feeling Basics Blaine might if he's not too dark...

Yes! They are from the very early 2000's sold only at the Disney store. I have Aladdin and Eric.

I'm looking for Prince Adam/Beast. But..he's not shown up anywhere yet. haha

:EDIT: here:

My Aladdin is named, Bob Saget Aladdin...because...that's who he looks like. xD

My only issue with them is that, they are bigger than other male dolls so that's why aladdin has no clothes. Or shoes. Their feet are bigger than ken's. Not all the plastic matches the parts on the body, but it's not that big of an problem for me.

That's the guy, thank you, in fact I think it must have been the Prince Adam doll because neither of these has the same face. Drats, that old huh? I was really hoping to snag a couple more of these. I really like these bodies. They're just buff enough to be cool as a body variant thing but not so much so that they seem too muscle bound unlike some action figures. They have the real hands too which I infinitely prefer to action hands.

Until now I just didn't have a good Ken head that fit one of these but the Edward from Twilight head fit it so I am thinking that one of my new Barbie Basics guys will also. Ken should look pretty good on it if the skin color is okay. I did like Edward's clothes and the face sculpt is nice but otherwise I have no use for the doll with the factory paint and hair. I'm not a Twilight fan. His "wannabe a vampire James Dean" look just does nothing for me.

I wiped his face and started to reroot his hair to red. I was going to repaint his head to match the prince body and make a romance novel type Highlander guy out of him, but now I'm thinking I may just put him back on his ultra pale body when I am done and give the body to Basics Ken aka Ben. He might be too pale though. I won't actually know till Ben shows up...

I can't afford bodies over $20 most of the time and actually I prefer them to be used and a lot less. One of these days I have got to find a couple of CAU Ken bodies and an AA body with some muscles that doesn't have action hands though. I think I've looked over every action figure I've seen locally and nothing really looks like it will work though. They all have gun hands. Everything I've seen online would just cost too darned much but I just want to make a couple of handsome Frankensteined guys who look like they work out for my girls to drool over. Once in a while a bigger guy is just nice, you know?

Action hands suck, IMHO. Someone gave me a Harry Potter from Tonner last year? I finally had to go and buy a cheap Edmund Pevensie just so I could give him some real hands. I just didn't like his hands as they were. I bought 4 of those Narnia kids for $20 a pop actually from The Doll Market when they had a fire sale on the nudes. I'm in the middle of repainting 3 of them to suit me now. I finally got around to it. I love the Peter doll actually. He's nice and big without being too big for my 16" Tonner girls. Painted up he looks a little older which is nice. I guess ultimately I just want the same in a Ken, a nice bigger Ken doll, to do faux romance cover shots with...

Him: Fine.
Me: SCORE!

Deep breath and relax, I have the recent posable dolls and I'm satisfied. The girls can wear Barbie stuff so you could whip up a gown for her, or mug another Belle, and his face is the closest they've made to the toon in a long time.

Let me point to the Jude Deveraux "The Raider" Ken Doll that was made a few years back. He's made to look like the romance novel guy. Here's a picture of mine:

Pretty sure you can get him off ebay and not have to pay out the butt.

Edit: I have to correct myself as apparently I can't find anyone on ebay just selling the Ken doll (right now). Which is weird because I had done a search just to price check and I found the set being sold separately which made it cheap. He comes with a Barbie since they are based off a romance novel... and it goes in the hunderds to get them both. :/

Here's something I just found trying to search for the dolls being sold separately: "The body is that of Mattel's action figure, Max Steel, which is fully jointed and very muscular." So maybe that could help you knowing what body he is.

Boy am I glad I decided to keep my set and I what I want with it.

He's gorgeous and I liked him when I saw him a while back but that set? Very expensive and besides which he has the action hands thing going on, ick. I have hopes that Basics Ken will fit on the Disney prince body. I was looking at the new Fashionista Kens and the prince body today and the match up there wouldn't be too bad. The Basics Ken from what I can tell from pics looks just a bit lighter than the new Fashionista ones.

That's actually not too far off from the prince body though the prince body may be just a tad more pink. More importantly he has the Edward neck so that's a big plus. He should just slip right on there. If it works I'll post pics later this week. If not, he'll probably end up on an articulated Fashionista Ken body which isn't so bad. I've seen that done. Neck is a bit short but it seems to go okay, and again I'll post some pics.

You know who I totally covet is Harley Ken 2010. I really hate the Barbie that comes with him though and I refuse to pay that much for the one doll besides. People are asking almost as much for him as they are for the set. It's crazy. But one of these days when I am flush I am going to buy that Ken. He's just too cool.
