Luckin Out At Walmart...

Postby magkelly » Sun Jan 29, 2012 2:13 pm

Thank goodness I have a Walmart CC, lol. I just lucked out and found the last two formal ball Moxie Teenz in probably my whole state on clearance and one of them is the ultra beautiful RH Leigh. The other was a Tristen. Also gorgeous but out of that bunch IMHO Leigh is the THE girl doll to have. (I have two Tristen dolls besides.) Thing is I already have Leigh. Got her for Christmas, but I couldn't stand the idea that she was just sitting there, left behind, as it were. Besides which she was like 60% off so in the cart she went!

Opinions...

Should I keep them both in the box and flip them, which actually might be lucrative at some point because it's looking more and more like they were the last bunch of these dolls. Should I trade them off for something else maybe? Or should I say the heck with it, de-box them and make them into new characters somehow? I could always just change the eye colors and re-wig my other Tris dolls so they don't look like her at all. Let her be the official Tristen. (Did that already with one. But one Tris does still look like a Tris.)

I just can't do that with the other Leigh though. I just cannot bring myself to cut off all that flaming hair. The most I could do would be to change up her makeup a bit, style her hair differently, and maybe give her glasses or something, make her my Leia's twin. I don't have a MT with brown eyes as yet. (No Bijou here. No Arizona either, unfortunately.) So I could make her a brown-eyed RH maybe, with glasses???

Or I could be sensible, hang onto them for a year, flip them and make a small bundle....

What do you think?

PS: Formal Tris actually has transparent fuchsia ankle boots, not the heels on the box pic. No loss there as the heels on Leigh are the same as those in gold and they were a bit flimsy. Pretty but really useless to stand the doll on as the heels on the shoes would just fold over on you.

We had some of the MT on clearance here at walmart too.

I bought a Tristen for a body... I went to the other walmarts looking for a different girl but none of them had anymore. :I

I suppose I'm stuck with this lonely one until I find one at a thrift store.

Oh, and I would debox them. The Tristen I have, her hand was touching her hair in the box. The wig stained her face and her hand. I don't know how long she was sitting in the box for, but they need to be taken out at some point in time to prevent stains.

Lucky. I have been looking for the redhead and still no luck. I can only find the blonde but her box was like really damaged and still ringing up 24.88 despite the red clearance sticker. I did manage to purchase an accessory set for only 2 dollars though.

I opened and redid the Tristen but I've still got the extra Leigh boxed. I haven't quite decided what I am going to do with her actually. She's going for like $45-50 sometimes now. Part of me wants to open her up and keep her even though she's a double. Part of me thinks I should wait 6 months and see what she's going for then. I just have this feeling that she and the boy doll are going to be worth a fair bit in a while...

Found a Bijou the day before yesterday on clearance at walmart. So there is still hope of finding these girls. I dislike the heads on these dolls, but the uniqueness of the body has all my interest. :) I'm making a hybrid right as soon as my ebay purchase gets here...

Unless the box is in pristine shape you won't get "collector" prices. If the box is good you can gamble on getting that price but it doesn't sound like it's in Monster territory. Personally I've decided no more doubles of anyone I have, unless the dog eats them or something. As for "being worth something" you have to think what is it worth to you?

What about keeping the double her in the box for now and trading her for one you don't have?

I thought about trades but I'm not sure I'd trade another Leigh for an Arizona or a Bijou even though I don't have those two. I'm still thinking about it. As for value I've already had a few people at my local meet up eying her. She was not easy to find around here at all. There are a couple of people in the BJD club that they've just started that like the MT's. I could flip her for $40 fairly easily actually.

I don't know. I'm very torn on this one. I really like her. I'll probably just de-box her, give her slightly different makeup and keep her as Leia's twin. If it had been any other doll I might have gone there, but I'm totally smitten with the Leigh doll and wouldn't mind having two if I can make them look just a little different. She's a truly gorgeous doll. I like Tristen a lot too, obviously since I have 3, but this one is too special really. They really outdid themselves with her.

I'm very sad this line is over. I really liked them all. I've got 3 Tristens, 2 Melroses, 2 Leighs, 1 Gavin so far. But 2 of the Tristens and one of the Melrose dolls are new characters now. I've customed them. Eventually I will get a Bijou and an Arizona to complete the set but unless I find them on clearance that won't happen right now. Not likely. They're sold out everywhere here. I'll probably end up paying silly sums on Amazon eventually just to get them.

I just went to TRU today and they literally had about 25+ of all of the Moxie Teenz (even Gavin) on clearence for 14.99! I bought an Arizona, she matches better to the madison head I've got~

Were they wave #1 Arizona or Wave #2? Ours is out of all of them, has been for a long time. But they only have #1 Arizona online and I was kind of holding out for #2 because she has a much better wig than #1 did. (Downside her skin is so light she almost looks like Melrose with deeper eyes. That's kind of lame in a way. #1's skin tone was actually quite lovely.) All the online stores I see wave #2 in still want way too much yet for #2 Arizona. I'd end up spending $27-40 for one and that's just too much.

I was tempted but by the time I'd order online at TRU, pay the tax and shipping I might as well buy the #2 Arizona instead. I still might, but not till next month. I've done enough damage on my CC for this month. If I saw one locally though, even if it was a #1 I'd probably go for it just to have one finally though. I'm torn between the two dolls. I only want one but I keep looking back and forth and I can't quite make up my mind, laugh. Both of them have aspects I like and don't like...
