Has anyone else seen this?
LinkMore interesting linkOfficial websiteI've been tripping over this information tonight... New line of Jem dolls. This one is apparently the SDCC exclusive 'Hollywood Jem'. Is it just me, or does it look like Siguorney Weaver cosplaying Jem? o.O;;;

I don't know who that's supposed to be but that is NOT Jem. Uh, maybe a Jason Wu version of the character, but that's not the Jem I know and love and who is sitting on my doll shelf along with a few of her friends. I'm not liking this. I really hoped they would bring Jem back in some incarnation but not if she's going to look vaguely like a FR girl only with pink hair. She looks about as much like Jem as the new Alexandra Ford dolls look like Alex and that's to say barely at all. This girl is about as exciting as day old bread. Her clothes could be any Barbie's clothes albeit they're a bit more upscale. Actually what she reminds me of is a Jaks celebrity doll of some kind. She has no real personality to speak of. Look at her. Except for the pink hair she's totally blah and Jem dolls were anything BUT.

Well, I kinda like her :T Her face sculpt is interesting to me and I wouldn't mind being able to sntach her when/if I could.

Her hundred dollar price tag is totally sexy too.... not. I agree that she looks way too much like a FR. Although I am excited about the prospect of Jem coming back into style. Maybe I'll get lucky and they will make a movie out of this amazing 80's show too. <3

As an owner of a FR I'm not happy with the body. I use her for Julie Newmar Catwoman because she just has to stand there and look statuesque instead of actual cat/spider woman moves. Too big to fit with Barbies, or not working with the previous versions of the dolls, is on the stupid side. The price will shut out the "kids" who would want to play and be more inclined to buy a reasonably priced doll.
On the Jakk's Pacific side they'd at least get the faces good and they did the Juku Couture who have nice joints. It kind of resembles the old Jem dolls, just a bad angle to catch her at :/ Unless she's a drag queen.

I also kind of like her. As someone who didn't know who Jem was until I joined this forum and therefore have no sentimental attachement, and also as someone who has no idea what a FR is, I think she has an interesting look. I like her stronger jar and high cheek bones that I'm not used to seeing on fashion-like dolls. But I don't see her being worth that price tag. That seems like a skinning based on exploiting peoples attachment to the character.
PS: what is a FR?

Fashion Royalty, Integrity's main line of high end 12" dolls designed by Jason Wu. They have a very distinct haute couture semi-Asian inspired look and this "Jem" does rather resemble them more than she does old Jem. I think so anyhow. That bone structure, the eyes, it's very FR, though the eyes are not as made up as theirs generally are. I like Jason but all the Integrity fashion dolls are looking like at least partial clones of his FR work. It's because they're so successful I'd guess but it's just not very Jem, IMHO. She just doesn't really look like Jem/Jerrica at all to me. When he was producing Mel Odom's new Gene dolls the same thing kind of happened. Not all but some of the Integrity Gene dolls started to look like his idea of Lana Turner and not at all like Gene. Some people liked it, some didn't, but I personally never cared as much for those dolls. They were beautiful but for Gene they were just too hard edged. They just seemed like another character to me almost.
I don't know who designed these but they're definitely in the new Integrity style and I'm just not too sure I like her. I don't want to see Jem priced away from kids either. Jem was a kid's show. It's okay that adults love her and collect her but kids should be able to watch and fall in love with her too and at $100 she's just not for the kids. Jem's supposed to be a playline doll. A doll kids can dream with, play with, not just for adults to pose and sit on a shelf. My idea of the new Jem line was more like the old line but with articulation, and maybe wigs, sort of like Liv. $20 and under dolls that everyone could afford. A new cartoon is fine but if every doll in the collection goes for that it's not going to fly with the kids so why even bother?

Ah thank you. I learn something new and interesting everyday. I can definitely see the similiarity in the facial structure. I can also understand the prices on the FR dolls. At least in the pictures, their outfits are incredibly detailed, and while I like the over all look of this Jem's outfit, at least the blazer doesn't seem to be of the same quality. But maybe that's just the way the camera pics up the light reflecting off the gold.

This one is the "collectible, limited edition one only avaiable at Comic Con.," which accounts for the price tag. I'm hoping the ones that follow will not be so high. Otherwise their only customers will be collectors because who would give their child a $100 doll?

The original has a button on her back you press to make her earrings light up, no fun if she can't do that.
