Midnight Magic Dolls - Dollar Store Monster High imitations

Postby ChibiKinesis » Sun Nov 04, 2012 6:04 pm

If this is a repost, I apologize, but I didn't see anything about them in the forums yet so I thought I'd go ahead and post about them for others to see.

Has anyone seen these yet? I don't even remember how I stumbled across them, but Family Dollar has been selling "Midnight Magic" dolls - similarly fashioned to Monster High dolls. I had my sister pick up a few for me to repaint; at $5 a pop, I'm pretty excited to get my paws on them.

Here's their website if anyone's curious (even thought it's sort of bare, haha) :) http://midnight-magic.com/main.asp

OMG lol that is so absurd XD
It's pretty funny what people can get away with when it comes to copyrights.

For all the more they cost, I just got them for fun and to repaint. The price is right for something to play around with.

I want to buy an official MH doll soon, too, though. Probably a CAM kit :)

I think you will be very happy with CAM line, they're wonderful for the indecisive.

Please post pictures when they get in. I do like the hair on the blue one but otherwise I feel I could pass. For me it would depend if the eyes are molded on or not.

Well, I got three them lastnight; while the rooting of the head's a little sparse, there's a surprising amount of hair on them, and it's quite soft. Though the 'Adele' (the Draculaura looking doll) had some issues with shedding, and 'Mila' needed a hair brushing in a bad way. They all had uneven ends, as well, but since i bought them to play around with and customize, I wasn't too bothered by it. The bodies are more solid than I'd imagined they'd be, but you have to be a little cautious bending her arms and wrists; the wrists in particular! I found, though, that the face was not an easy removal. It left ugly smudges on the first removal I attempted, so I'm a little intimidated by the other two. Perhaps it was due to the cheaper materials? Or perhaps I should try a gentler cleaner? /shrug

I'll take some pictures to post soon :)

Maybe you need to try a stronger cleaner instead? I had to use pure acetone to get the paint off of my MH or I would have been scrubbing all day. Then again these dolls might be made of inferior materials since they were only $5; so it might be a bit risky.

Pure acetone is what I was using D; In the scooping motion, too, not a wiping one. Not until I got aggravated, anyways >_>; Her lips were left a sorta yucky orange-ish tint, and there are smudges where her eyes were.

Oh goodness >___< Maybe it's because it's cheap plastic/vinyl? Or might even be the paint itself, who knows. In the end I guess you get what you pay for, lol. When you repaint it though, you might at least be able to cover the orange lips if you can get rid of the smudges. I would try cleaning it a second time with the acetone, you never know!

I found non-acetone nail polish remover works better than the acetone type which just smears the paint around. I'm not sure how it compares to pure acetone.

I once ruined a hard plastic Obitsu torso completely by using non-acetone nail polish remover... so don't be too sure. It completely melted the hard plastic away.
