Anyone know of a flexible sealant?

Postby Lunis » Thu Nov 08, 2012 5:23 pm

I posted some pictures of my MH custom, Cosette, a while back. I used Vallejo Acrylic Varnish to seal her makeup, which is similar to MSC. But I have a problem. MH heads are squishable but the sealant is meant for hard surfaces that don't flex. Cosette got a few cracks in the sealant on her face. They were really light, but still noticeable in sunlight. I had planned redo her makeup anyway, so she's all fixed now. But for future customs I really want to find a sealant that won't crack when their heads flex. Especially since I'm planning to put some of them in my shop. I could put a warning to be careful with their heads for the sake of light cracks, but I'd much prefer not having the problem at all of course.

So does anyone know of a good flexible sealant that doesn't yellow easily? I'd prefer it to be a spray so their makeup doesn't get messed up or anything when it's applied.

Thanks in advance! :3

I've no idea if what I use yellows (I haven't really been using it for long now) - but I really like Tamiya clear matt spray for plastics, if you clean up the head properly the initial layer really does seem to bond itself to the underlying material. (I'm having trouble finding a reliable source of it at the moment though...)

Edit: Manufacturer code is TS80 Tamiya Color Flat Clear

I hope someone else can give you a better answer, but the only things I can think of:

1. brush on a thin layer of silicone and dust it with a matting powder. But that may be a tad expensive.

2. When I was just looking at the FX warehouse for the above, I incidentally ran into this:

But there's not much information on it, but you can write or call them and ask about it.
